A year ago today Ethiopia was facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis affecting every one in the country, but especially hard for women. Menbe donated $50,000 of her own money and specifically earmarked it to be used for the support of these women.

Today, things seem to be looking up in Ethiopia, and for this we are thankful to God. Ethiopia might sometimes feel like it’s worlds away, but Menbe will never forget about the country where she was born.

Menbere Aklilu founder of the Menbe’s Way Fund is bringing back her annual ā€œYes, You Are Worthyā€ Mother’s Day Brunch, and this year, it’s being hosted at her waterfront home here in Point Richmond.

All 50 mothers are being pampered at Beauty By Nature Hair Salon in Point Richmond, and then chauffeured over to Menbe’s house for a delicious five-course brunch. Expect to see County Supervisor John Gioia and Richmond Mayor Tom Butt serving.

Wondering how to help Menbe? Although all the volunteer positions are filled at the moment, you can make a tax-deductible donation to the Menbe’s Way Fund, a donor-advised fund managed by Richmond Community Foundation. Use the link below to make a donation:

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

It's been a while since I last saw all your beautiful faces - and oh how I've missed you. Although you've heard a little less from me over the last few years, I have continued to support my community in the Bay Area and Ethiopia. Here in the Bay Area, I've continued to advocate for victims of Domestic Violence, and in Ethiopia, thanks to your donations, I was able to complete a dormitory that now houses 80 girls, allowing them to attend school safely.

With your help, Menbe's Way has been able to do some incredible things, and I'm just getting started. But first I need your help. When my restaurant, Salute, was open, it served as the biggest revenue generator for the foundation. Now that it is closed, the foundation relies almost solely on your generous donations.

If you would like to continue supporting Menbe's Way, I have a delicious opportunity: a dinner party at my house! I've decided to open my home a few times a year to host a beautiful five-course dinner prepared by me and my husband, Oprah Winfrey's favorite Pastry Chef, Jean Yves Charon. All the proceeds from these dinners will go directly to the Menbe's Way Fund.

I'm excited to announce the first one on Saturday, August 7th at 4pm.

If you would like to attend, RSVP using the link below. We ask that you commit to donating at least $1,000.00 per person.

Today is , a global movement where individuals can support local non-profits and help change their communities. The Menbe's Way Fund is dedicated to just that - supporting at-risk women and children in our local community as well as in Ethiopia. We would be honored if you would consider The Menbe's Way Fund as one of the charities you support today. Make a tax-deductible donation using the link below.

What a beautiful day! Thank ton to everyone who supported our annual day of giving thanks. Especially, Standard Party Rentals for kindly donating all the tents, tables, chairs, as well as silverware and glassware. Can't wait to do it again next year.

There's still time to donate for the Menbe's Way Day of Giving Thanks. We are in need of Ground Coffee, non-perishable orange juice, and bread rolls. Please bring all items to the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program located on 22nd Street.
