A Journey of Exploration, Empowerment & Possibilities
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau (CCYSB) joined Passport2Culture for a memorable experience at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco—a day filled with exploration, fellowship, learning, and unforgettable views.
Our CCYSB photographer Marie Johnson was on assignment capturing the journey through photographs and interviews, giving us an opportunity to preserve this special experience through the eyes and voices of those who participated. We are excited to share these photographs today, with interviews and more highlights coming later this week.
We proudly recognize Marena Brown, CCYSB Executive Director, and Diana Becton, CCYSB Board President and Contra Costa County District Attorney, for their continued leadership and commitment to the young people and families we serve.
We also extend our appreciation to Jennifer Hollington, Founder & President of Passport2Culture, an organization she founded in 2016. Through the collaboration between CCYSB and Passport2Culture, young women have been encouraged to explore beyond their everyday surroundings while learning valuable lessons in self-motivation, self-esteem, loving yourself, respecting yourself and others, and developing confidence and life skills.
An important part of that journey also included lessons in table etiquette, taught by one of our cherished late collaborators, Mrs. Lydia Stewart-Warner, who passed away earlier this spring. Her investment in our young women, her wisdom, and the lessons she shared remain a meaningful part of the foundation upon which we continue to build.
For 42 years, CCYSB has been—and continues to be—a staple within Richmond, Contra Costa County, and our East County communities in California. Founded by the late Taalia Hassan, CCYSB continues the mission of empowering youth, strengthening families, building partnerships, and creating opportunities that help our young people see what is possible for their futures.
These photographs represent much more than a walk across an iconic bridge. They represent exposure, education, confidence, collaboration, community, and the opportunity for young women to dream beyond what they can see today.
