JOIN US THIS MONDAY FOR AN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY CONVERSATION

The Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau invites you to an educational seminar focused on Opioid Substance Use Disorder and how our faith communities can help bring knowledge, compassion, hope, and action to individuals and families.

This church-based seminar is designed to help us better understand opioid use, recognize warning signs, learn practical tools for offering support, and discover how faith and community can make a difference.

Monday, August 24, 2026
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
True Fellowship Baptist Church
1213 Fred Jackson Way
Richmond, CA 94801

Opioid addiction does not affect just one person—it touches families, churches, and entire communities. The more we understand, the better equipped we are to respond with compassion, resources, and support.

Healthy communities begin when we are willing to learn, listen, and help one another.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Family Harmony Workshop – A Powerful First Step 💜

I had the privilege of attending the first Family Harmony Workshop, and it was truly a meaningful experience.

One of the most impactful activities encouraged participants to reflect on the negative words and experiences that have affected their self-esteem. Each person wrote those thoughts down on paper. Then came the powerful part they were instructed to tear the paper into pieces and throw it into the trash as a symbolic act of letting go.

The facilitator shared something that really stood out to me:
"If your paper doesn't make it into the trash, leave it on the floor. Don't pick it back up, because you would be holding on to those negative thoughts."

What a powerful reminder that we don't have to carry yesterday's pain into tomorrow.

I had the opportunity to capture this special moment on video. I hope it inspires others just as it inspired me.

A heartfelt thank you to The Latina Center, Collaborations, Contra Costa Youth Service Bureau, and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) for creating a safe space where families can heal, grow, and thrive together. 💜
