Lieutenant Tim (Brian)Gard was a valuable part of RPD and more importantly is a good man! He will be missed, but we wish him the best in his retirement.
📣RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣
Today, we celebrate the retirement of Lieutenant Tim Brian Gard after more than 22 years of service with the City of Richmond. He has had a long and distinguished career, performing in a variety of roles during his time with the Richmond Police Department.
Lieutenant Gard started his career in February 1995 as a police officer at the Hawthorne Police Department until 1998. In 1999, he was hired by the Richmond Police Department as a police officer. During his career he worked as a Crime Scene Investigator for five years, a Police Training Officer for four years and a Robbery/Homicide detective for three years. Even after his stint in investigations, Lieutenant Gard continued to work with detectives and supervisors within all sections of RPD in addressing crime prevention and quality of life issues around the city.
Lieutenant Gard collaborated on, managed, and trained all department personnel in the implementation of Mark43, he created a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) training course for citizens attending the Community Safety Academy. Lt. Gard also managed the Mobile Field Force Team, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) training program, Peer Support Team, and Critical Incident Debriefs. Lt. Gard coordinated with the Special Olympics in fundraising for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. He also sat on fundraising committees for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge and Bike the Bridges.
Lieutenant Gard was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2013 and was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the Southern District. Lt. Gard also assisted the dispatch center in response to staffing shortfalls. Lt. Gard elected to receive training as a call taker and to answer Channel 2 requests. This ultimately resulted in immediate relief to communication staff.
The Richmond Police Department, to include the dispatch center, will sincerely miss Lt. Gard after 22 years of service and dedication. We wish him all the best in retirement.🎈🎈🎈🎈
