We are a collective of volunteers who aim to create a support system in response to COVID-19.

The mini grants application will be open three times this year! 4/14, 8/14, and 11/14! Things to remember: The grant amount is $200; Form opens at 9AM and closes at 9PM EST; Applicants are eligible for 2 grants per year; We serve the following localities/counties/communities: Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield; Fill out the form fully. We cannot approve incomplete forms; Let us know if any info changes (like address, phone number) by texting 804-362-0624; Please be patient as we process the many mini grant requests; Cash pick up is the fastest way to get your grant; Applications will be processed by the end of the application month, notifications will go out at the beginning of the following month. After weeks of snow, ice, and sustainable rest, we are so excited to open the store again this weekend! Come visit during our regular hours, 10am-4pm. We can’t wait to see our neighbors again. ❤️ Tras semanas de nieve, hielo y un descanso prolongado, ¡estamos encantados de abrir la tienda de nuevo este fin de semana! Visítanos en nuestro horario habitual, de 10 a.m. a 4 p.m. Estamos deseando volver a ver a nuestros vecinos. ❤️

As part of our pre-planned sustainability break to ensure this project operates smoothly, we will remain closed until the end of February. For support alternatives in the meantime, our food and clothing resource list is linked in our bio. We look forward to re-opening the market on February 28th!
Como parte de nuestra pausa de sostenibilidad planificada para garantizar el buen funcionamiento de este proyecto, permaneceremos cerrados hasta finales de febrero. Mientras tanto, para encontrar alternativas de apoyo, nuestra lista de recursos de comida y ropa está en nuestra biografía. ¡Esperamos reabrir el mercado el 28 de febrero!

Unfortunately, due to some safety and capacity issues, we will be closed on Saturday, 2/7. We’ll be distributing donations that we get this week through other community organizations. We will still be closed on 2/14 and 2/21 for our pre-planned sustainability break, but we look forward to opening up again on 2/28! 👾 Lamentablemente, debido a problemas de seguridad y aforo, permaneceremos cerrados el sábado 7 de febrero. Distribuiremos las donaciones que recibamos esta semana a través de otras organizaciones comunitarias. Unfortunately we have to close again this Saturday 1/31 due to the extreme cold (and possible snow but mostly the cold)! The free store is not large enough for shoppers to be able to wait inside (without exceeding our COVID precautions) and it would be very dangerous for folks to be outside in temperatures far below freezing for any length of time on Saturday. We’ll be working with other local organizations to distribute food this week to help keep our community fed. ❄️🥶 Lamentablemente, tendremos que cerrar de nuevo este sábado 31 de enero debido al frío extremo (y a la posible nieve, pero sobre todo al frío). La tienda gratuita no es lo suficientemente grande como para que los clientes puedan esperar dentro (sin incumplir las medidas de precaución contra la COVID-19), y sería muy peligroso que la gente estuviera a la intemperie con temperaturas muy por debajo de cero durante mucho tiempo el sábado. Colaboraremos con otras organizaciones locales para distribuir alimentos esta semana y así ayudar a que nuestra comunidad tenga qué comer.

Help us get compost pickups at the free store! We are looking for an individual, org, or business who can sponsor the pickups at $50/month for at least 6-12 months. Please dm if you’re able to help!

When we get food at the free store that isn’t good, we compost it! But it creates a lot of compost and it gets pretty cumbersome (and often messy) for our collective members to store it and drive it to a drop-off location. Having our compost picked up will help keep the store clean and save time for us while still making sure our food waste is disposed of in an eco-friendly way!

Serving over 150-200 families at the free store each week takes a LOT of time, energy, and money from our all-volunteer collective and often doesn’t leave a lot of time for longer-term planning and big discussions. We’ll be taking November off in order to get some rest, plan for the coming year, skill up, and make sure this project stays sustainable and values-aligned.
