“Decision making in general was something that was really frustrating a lot of times,” Kimica Bland said. “Hearing information from the top but not having any voice from students, staff and family.”

Bland said that teachers wanted to give students — who are predominantly Hispanic and Black — a more culturally relevant curriculum but didn’t have enough control.

196 Teachers and staff at California public charter school group bring their employer to the bargaining table following 2 year effort to unionize

On Tuesday May 10, the California Public Employees Relations Board, found in favor of our majority support for both Teaching and Support staff bargaining units at Caliber: Beta Academy and Caliber: Changemakers Academy. From the jump we have wanted a wall to wall union that can fight for ALL Caliber Workers, Families, and Students in our community. Caliber Management has yet to respond to our demand to honor our democratic vote for union representation and in doing so is just delaying the inevitable.

Caliber Workers are calling on management to stop funneling money to expensive anti-union lawyers and just listen to their employees by honoring the vote count that occurred over two weeks ago! We're ready to set this aside and come together as equals to collaborate on the issues that matter for all Caliber stakeholders, it's time management holds up their end of the bargain.

Our next meeting is tonight at 6pm where we will discuss further action and get ready to bargain! All Caliber workers are welcome and have an equal say. Message us for meeting info/check your email inbox for the zoom link.

El martes 10 de mayo, la Junta de Relaciones con los Empleados Públicos de California falló a favor de nuestro apoyo mayoritario para las unidades de negociación del personal docente y de apoyo en Caliber: Beta Academy y Caliber: Changemakers Academy. Desde el principio hemos querido un sindicato de pared a pared que pueda luchar por TODOS los trabajadores, familias y estudiantes de Caliber en nuestra comunidad. Caliber Management todavía tiene que responder a nuestra demanda de honrar nuestro voto democrático para la representación sindical y al hacerlo solo está retrasando lo inevitable.

¡Caliber Workers está pidiendo a la gerencia que deje de canalizar dinero a costosos abogados antisindicales y simplemente escuche a sus empleados honrando el conteo de votos que ocurrió hace más de dos semanas! Estamos listos para dejar esto de lado y unirnos como iguales para colaborar en los temas que importan para todas las partes interesadas de Caliber, es la gestión del tiempo la que cumple su parte del trato.

As a union of educators and the support staff that makes our schools run we organize because we want to make our schools the best they can be. Our working conditions are students' learning conditions. Which is why we are fighting for job security, class size caps, case load management, protected prep time, any and all things that can ensure we push back on staff turnover so we can continue serving students and families to the best of our abilities!

Yesterday we submitted our formal request to management to recognize the democratic vote of teachers and support staff at Caliber Public Schools and recognize our union ✨ Teachers and support staff at Beta & Changemakers spoke loud and clear that we are ready to uplift our community and make needed changes together so we can continue building a more fair and just school for all. We think it's high time management accepts the results, avoids costly delays and lawyers fees, and invests in collaboration with ALL Caliber workers!

Time to wear our union swag loud and proud! 😎🥳🤝

Fellow Caliber Workers, Friends, and Families: WE WON 🥳

After years of on going support, struggle, and collaboration the California Public Employees Relations Board has accepted our super majority proof of support at both Caliber: Beta Academy and Caliber ChangeMakers Academy schools for teachers AND support staff!

With this certification us Caliber Workers are calling on Admin at Caliber Public Schools to finally put an end to the tens of thousands of dollars spent on anti-union lawyers trying to silence workers' voices. Instead it's time to meet us at the bargaining table and let's get to work investing in our schools, our students, our communities, and our workforce.

Our working conditions are students' learning conditions. And we are tired of our community being undervalued.
