Some days just slow you down in the right way.

Horses getting worked.
Water, dirt, sweat.
A couple baby geese running around like they own the place.

And for a minute… things just feel right.

This is what the Equine Valor Project is about.

Not therapy in a room.
Not talking in circles.

👉 Real moments.
👉 Real connection.
👉 Real reset.

Days like these matter more than people realize.

Whiskey’s young, powerful, and still figuring things out—therefore the work matters.

Rachel is putting in the time most people don’t see… building trust, creating calm, and shaping a horse that can carry more than a rider one day.

He’s not just being trained.
He’s being prepared to help a veteran heal.

Ever put a fly mask on a horse and watch their entire personality change? 🐴🦇

All of a sudden it’s…
“I’m Batman.”
“I’m Batman.”
“I’m Batman.”

Full superhero mode… protecting the pasture like Gotham depends on it.

Then Whiskey shows up like:
“My name is Jeff.” 🤣

Every superhero needs a sidekick…

By veterans. For veterans.

Hyper-independence often develops when relying on others hasn’t felt safe.

It can look like confidence.
It can look like control.
It can even look like leadership.
But at its core, it’s often a protective adaptation of the nervous system.

After service, many Veterans carry everything alone because that’s what survival required.

Healing isn’t about removing independence.

It’s about expanding it to include safe connection.

Horses don’t isolate to prove strength.
They remain autonomous within the herd.
Strength and connection can coexist.

That’s what we help rebuild at Equine Valor Project. 🐎🤍

This is healing without becoming hyper-independent.
This is Equine Valor Project.

There’s a difference between independence and interdependence.

Independence says you don’t need anyone.

Interdependence recognizes that
trust,
teamwork,
and shared regulation
are strengths, not weaknesses.

In both the military and in a herd, no one operates alone.
Roles differ.
Leadership shifts.
But connection is constant.

After service, hyper-independence can feel safer.
It feels controlled.
Predictable.
But humans are wired for connection.

At Equine Valor Project, Veterans experience strength in relationship again with horses and with each other.
Not dependence.
Not isolation.
Interdependence.

This is interdependent healing
This is Equine Valor Project 🐎

Horses are herd animals.
Their nervous systems are built around connection, shared awareness, and collective safety.

Isolation increases stress.
Belonging reduces it.
Humans are no different.

In service, community is constant, shared mission, shared responsibility, shared watch.

After transition, that structure can disappear overnight.

But the nervous system still craves connection.

That’s why community isn’t just a “nice addition” to healing, it’s foundational.

At Equine Valor Project, Veterans experience regulation not only through equine connection, but through rebuilding community with others who understand.

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation.
It happens in relationship.

This is healing in community.
This is Equine Valor Project 🐎

RIP Maddie ♥️

Come with me to feed our EVP horses, Reese and Whiskey.

Everyday our team works together to make sure our horses are well taken care of, fed, and loved.

These quiet 1:1 moments with the horses allows for that bond to grow deeper between Veteran and horse.

What looks like work from the outside is actually therapy in action.

Although there is a practical benefit of our feeding schedule, there is also an emotional, spiritual, and purpose driven benefit too.

If you would like to join the team of amazing Veterans feeding these two amazing horses, reach out by DM pr find out more on our website.

If you would like to donate to help us serve our Veteran population suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues, please find the link in our bio for our website and donation link.

As a Veteran non-profit, we are funded solely based on donations, every dollar counts!

Thank you to everyone who supports this incredible organization! EVP is only successful because of you!
