"Ahimsa" is the Sanskrit word meaning, "do no harm" and we think it perfectly encompasses the philosophy of our micro-sanctuary. Ahimsa Acres Sanctuary was founded in 2015 on 5 acres in southern New Jersey and serves as a permanent refuge for more than 20 farm animals who have been rescued from a variety of situations. Today is a very special day! It’s our brave survivor, Rocky The Miracle Pig’s Gotcha Day! 10 years ago, we picked him up as a critically ill baby piglet and we weren’t sure he’d even make it for the car ride to the hospital. He was given a 5% chance of survival but overcame every single obstacle in his path (if you’ve been following us that long, you might remember that there were A LOT of them), and today, is a happy and healthy boy who makes us smile and laugh with his little piggie attitude and antics. He epitomizes everything we stand for and we are so, so lucky to have him as a part of our Ahimsa family. ❤️

This is not the update we wanted to have to share… Nemo did not make it out of surgery yesterday. 😞 He went into cardiac arrest when his surgical team was reversing the anesthesia to wake him up and despite their best efforts, they were not able to get him back. We are so sad to have to share this news but we wanted to say thank you again to everyone who contributed toward his surgery in attempt to give him a little more time. He was a sanctuary resident with us for 10 years and he is already very missed.

As I (Jena) was driving to work this morning, a wild rabbit crossed the road in front of me. We, surprisingly, don’t often see wild rabbits around here, so I like to think it was a little sign from Nemo. Rest easy, little buddy. You were loved. ❤️

Our sweet Nemo has a bone infection in his foot that will not resolve, so he is scheduled to have surgery to amputate on Monday. We are looking at a $1500-$2000 vet bill and donations have been very low recently.
