The Hike Through Time is coming up this weekend (May 16th). Join National Historical Park rangers and REACH Museum educators for a free guided, 3.6-mile (5.8 km) round-trip moderate hike to the top of Candy Mountain on Saturday, May 16 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Pacific time.

Hike Through Time (Richland, WA) โ€“ in two weeks! Join Manhattan Project National Historical Park rangers and REACH Museum educators on a free guided, 3.6-mile (5.8 km) round-trip moderate hike to the top of Candy Mountain on Saturday, May 16 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Pacific time. There will be several stops along the trail up to the summit where rangers will share short histories about the events and people that shaped the mid-Columbia region. Hikers will move forward in time as the stops progress from the Ice Age Floods to the Manhattan Project and its legacies. Topics will include the Native Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the arrival of Christian missionaries, and the selection of Hanford for plutonium production during World War II. Hikers will gain 555 feet (170 m) of elevation as they hike to the top of Candy Mountain. Participants should be prepared to hike uphill, bring water and food, and plan for a variety of weather. Meet in the Candy Mountain trailhead parking lot by 8:45am for a 9:00am departure.

To ensure the safety of all participants, hikers will:
*Be able to go the distance. This is a moderate hike to the top of Candy Mountain.

*Be prepared to be outside for several hours and dress appropriately for the weather. Close-toed shoes, hat, and sunglasses are recommended.

*Bring water and snacks to make sure you have enough energy to complete the hike. Food and water are not provided or available for purchase during the hike.

LESS THAN 1 WEEK TO GO! โฐ

๐ŸฅพLove your local trails? Here's a chance to give back!

We're cheering on 3 Rivers Community Foundation's Trails for Tomorrow campaign!

This April, donations to the Richard Smith & Elaine Chapman Conservation Fund are matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $50,000) AND matched again for 3 Rivers' annual grantmaking. That's double the impact for trail maintenance and land preservation in Benton & Franklin counties!

As folks who care deeply about keeping trails like Badger Mountain open and thriving, we couldn't be more on board with this effort. Every dollar helps. ๐ŸŒฑ

Thank you FOBM Volunteers. The Candy Mountain trail is looking great. Gravel has been recovered from the trail edge and redistributed across the trail and there are new rock walls to stabilize the downhill trail edge and as a reward the Lupin is out at the summit of Candy. Looking Good.

๐ŸŒฟ What an incredible Earth Day 2026!

A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Friends of Badger Mountain booth at the REACH on Saturday to learn about our trails and the dedicated volunteers who keep them in great shape.

We loved connecting with so many of you and signing up new friends eager to help with invasive w**d removal and trail maintenance, and to become members. Your enthusiasm for protecting this special place means everything!

And a special shoutout to our amazing booth volunteers โ€” your passion for sharing about the treasure our preserve is with our whole community truly shines. ๐Ÿ’š

See you on the trails!
