FRC Twisted Devils Team 4381

FRC Twisted Devils Team 4381 Gull Lake Areas FIRST Robotics Team 4381, the Twisted Devils . We are Team 4381, the Twisted devils, and Team 4422, the Twisted Angels.
(1)

Our teams are from Richland, MI. Our students are from Gull Lake High School and the surrounding areas. Participating in FIRST’s robotics Coopertition we are learning the science and technology of robotics, applying the mathematics, science, and computer skills we have learned in school to build a robot to be used in FIRST Coopertition first regionally in West Michigan and hopefully at the nationa

l level. Coopertition produces innovation. At FIRST, Coopertition is displaying unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition. Coopertition is founded on the concept and a philosophy that teams can and should help and cooperate with each other even as they compete.

This season, Gull Lake Area Robotics has been proud to support the Climax-Scotts robotics program! They’ve spent time practicing in our build facility, where mentors and experienced students were able to help guide them throughout the season. Whether it was assisting with programming or cheering them on at competitions, gracious professionalism was at the center of it all. We’re incredibly proud of the hard work and growth they’ve shown, and we’re grateful to be part of their journey. We’re looking forward to continuing this partnership in the future for any STEAM needs and we’re so excited to see them compete at the Michigan State Championship!!

States is less than a week away, and the Twisted Devils have been hard at work improving their robot between the qualifier and state competitions.
The CAD team has finalized the robot design and is now supporting the mechanical subteam. Mechanical is currently addressing some jamming issues and working to develop effective solutions, while also building new bumpers to match the updated frame size. Programming has received the robot and is focusing on implementing the Chinese Remainder Theorem to tune the shooter, along with developing final autos for states. The electrical team has also been busy, handling quick fixes and assisting other subteams wherever needed.
With every subteam pushing hard in these final days, the Twisted Devils are coming together with a stronger, more refined robot and a shared determination to perform their best at states.

Caleb has been a dedicated member of FIRST for 9 years and on the Twisted Devils for five years. During his time with the Twisted Devils he has made an incredible impact on our team and program. As the Team Captain of FRC Team 4381 and CAD Lead for the past four years, Caleb has played a vital role in designing and developing the robots each season. His attention to detail, engineering skills, and leadership have helped guide the team both technically and culturally, setting a high standard for those who work alongside him. Caleb’s influence goes far beyond our own team. For the past three years, he has mentored our FTC team, 5663, helping younger students learn skills while sharing his enthusiasm for FIRST and STEM. His role has inspired many students who admire his dedication, patience, and passion for helping others grow. Caleb truly embodies the spirit of FIRST by investing in the future generation of students. This fall, Caleb will be attending the University of Rhode Island, where he plans to major in International Engineering with a focus on Ocean Engineering. With his drive, curiosity, and commitment to learning, we know he will continue to accomplish amazing things. Caleb has been an incredibly important part of the Twisted program, his leadership, mentorship, and passion has left a lasting mark on our team. We are grateful for everything he has contributed and cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.

Noah has spent the past 10 years involved in the FIRST community, bringing dedication and curiosity to everything he does. As a member of the Twisted Devils, he has taken on important leadership roles, serving as Programming Lead for two years, Strategy Lead for one year, and a member of the drive team during his time on FRC Team 4381. In these roles, Noah helped guide the team through technical challenges, contributing to the development of reliable code and thoughtful match strategies that supported the team throughout each season. Beyond his work on the team, Noah is also committed to helping others grow within FIRST. As a junior mentor for FTC Team 9087, he supports younger students as they learn the basics of robotics and programming. His willingness to share his knowledge and encourage others reflects within his students. After graduation, Noah plans to attend Michigan Technological University, where he will study Biomedical Engineering. He also got the FIRST scholarship for Michigan Tech and we are incredibly proud. He is interested in pursuing a career in mechanical device development or tissue engineering, with the goal of contributing to advancements in medical technology. Throughout his time with the Twisted program, Noah has been a dependable teammate and thoughtful leader. His technical contributions have positively influenced the team, and we are excited to see where his future in engineering will take him.

With states approaching, much work was needed, and throughout spring break we've been busy. This week, (not April fools) the robot was stripped down to it's drive base, and is being built back up.

Our CAD team finished up the robot CAD, except the camera mounts and the little details which have to be worked out. Mechanical tore apart the robot and built structure for the new fuel feeding system, with more to be done. Programming (without a bot) has been doing research on new methods for turret calculations and energy compensation. Being the robot was torn apart, electrical has been busy as well rewiring the drive base, flipping the PDP, and plugging in other pieces as the robot is reassembled.

Even with tornado warnings and being trapped in a basement, so much progress has been made in preparation for states.

Following our week 3 competition in Jackson we are preparing our robot for the state championship. Our CAD has been working on our new robot design. Mechanical and Electrical helped set up the Battle Creek week 4 competition. Programming set amprage and voltage limits for various motors. Marketing had a sponsorship presentation at Post Consumer Brands. As a team we are looking forward to making improvements on the robot as we get closer to states! 🤖💙😈

Nolen has been involved in robotics for four years, bringing positivity, dedication, and strong technical ability to the Twisted Devils. As the Electrical Lead for Team 4381 and a member of the drive team, he has played an important role in both the technical side of the team and the overall team environment. Nolen is someone that younger and eager students naturally gravitate toward. He is always willing to help, answer questions, and share what he knows with patience and kindness. His ability to support others while staying focused on the work at hand has helped keep the team learning and growing each season. More than anything, Nolen is the sunshine of the team. Whether it’s making people laugh, lifting the mood during long build days, or simply bringing good energy into the room, he has a way of reminding everyone why they love being part of robotics. His presence makes the team a more positive and welcoming place for everyone. After graduation, Nolen will be attending Kettering University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering, with hopes of entering the automotive field. With his dedication, positivity, and passion, we know he will do amazing things. Nolen has been a truly special part of the Twisted Devils. His joy, kindness, and good vibes will be deeply missed, and we are so excited to see what his future holds.
