Good tips for identification.

Often initially mistaken for a sparrow or another species of mottled brown bird, the female Red-winged Blackbird is a common sight in marshy habitats across North America. Females build their nests solo, and are extremely territorial, often harassing any larger bird—or unfortunate human—that gets too close for comfort.
