MS Spay & Neuter is a nonprofit that offers low-cost services in Central Mississippi via the Big Fix Clinic and Elaine's Basic Care & Wellness Center in Richland. Mississippi Spay and Neuter reduces animal homelessness, suffering and euthanasia by providing affordable spay and neuter, and by raising awareness of pet overpopulation. Mississippi's animal shelters can't save and support the huge number of accidental litters, strays, and family pets brought to the shelter door every day.

A big shout out to sweet Bonnie for coming in to be spayed with us recently! We’re so thankful her family was thinking of her health and acted quickly.

Bonnie is recovering like a champ and rocking her little “doughnut” (recovery collar) around her neck; cute and protective all in one 🍩🐶💕

Thank you to Bonnie’s family for trusting us with her care, and a special thank you to Caitlyn for taking such wonderful care of her during her visit 💙

🐾💙 Information Sunday: What is Pyometra? 💙🐾

Most pet owners have never heard of pyometra, until it becomes an emergency.

Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that affects unspayed female dogs and cats. It can develop quickly and, without treatment, can be fatal.

⚠️ Signs of pyometra may include:
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Increased thirst
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 A swollen abdomen
🐾 Vaginal discharge (though not always present)

In many cases, emergency surgery is the only treatment, and it can be much more expensive and riskier than a routine spay procedure.

💡 The good news? Pyometra is almost entirely preventable through spaying.

Spaying doesn't just prevent unwanted litters; it protects your pet from serious health conditions like pyometra and helps them live a healthier life.
