Ozarks Food Harvest will be working directly with Richland R-IV Schools to provide weekend backpack meals to students who qualify this year. The school district was approved for the program in late May, so the Richland Blessings in a Backpack program will be taking a break. Any remaining funds in our account will be held until May of 2026, as the grant from Ozarks Food Harvest is approved for this school year only.
Our community will continue to support the program in any way needed in the future. We owe a big thank you to the volunteers who have helped purchase, organize, pack and deliver the backpacks for the past 15-plus years. Naomi Breazeale did an amazing job as coordinator for many years. A big thank you to Naomi. And we need to thank the school counselors, teachers, and patrons who have supported the program with time, money and energy over the years.. Richland has always cared about its children. And the Backpack program is evidence of that.
As this school year begins, let's pray for each and every child who receives the gift of food to know that love and hope for a bright future comes right along with it.
