I am trying to stay positive and understand this transition from a rescue standpoint.
As of today, Misfit Homestead & Rescue and multiple other well-known rescues have reached out and offered assistance by taking in cats from Ocooch. I personally offered to take some of the most fragile, high-risk cats because I know their medical and behavioral needs and understand that many may struggle in a different environment.
We have been met with silence. Instead, the only organizations that appear to have been contacted are those with high-kill philosophies- besides one which was Driftless humane society. This is something that stands in direct opposition to the mission and values that Ocooch has built and that this community has supported for years.
I am once again begging the Board to please accept the help being offered. Multiple rescues are willing and ready to step in and help with this transition who hold the same values Ocooch was built on. If there is a plan- communicate with those wanting to help. Set aside personal feelings, differences, and politics for a moment and focus on the animals.
At the very least, these cats deserve every possible chance at safety, care, and a future.
