🎃 👻 Why wait until October 31st when you can kick off Halloween early?! Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 10, because TWO of Richfield's favorite fall traditions are back!

Here's your game plan for Saturday:

🎃 Morning: Great Pumpkin Giveaway! Kick off the day at Fairwood Park. From 10 until noon, every family gets to take home a FREE pumpkin to carve, plus there's face painting, photo booth fun, a coloring contest, fall treats, and door prizes!

🍬 Afternoon: 8th Annual Community Trunk or Treat From 3-6 p.m., get those kiddos suited up in their Halloween best and head over to Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel at 66th and Portland, where dozens of local Richfield businesses and community groups will be lining up decorated car trunks full of goodies.

Pro tip: It's also an opportunity to Give Back. Bring canned goods and other household items and help "fill the hearse" for our friends at the VEAP Food Shelf!

Grab your costumes, bring a donation, and let's get the spooky season started!

Happy National VFW Day, Richfield! 🇺🇸

Did you know that today (Tuesday, Sept. 29) is National VFW Day? It’s a great opportunity to shout out one of our favorite neighborhood gathering spots: Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555!

Here are a few things you might not know about our local post:

💙 The Story Behind the Name: Founded in 1955, Post 5555 is named in honor of Fred A. Babcock, Jr.—a decorated WWII Marine Corps veteran and Richfield police officer who tragically lost his life in the line of duty at 76th & Lyndale on June 4, 1949.

🍻 More Than Just a Post: Located right on Lake Shore Drive (just across from Wood Lake Nature Center!), Post 5555 is a full restaurant, bar, and community hub. Stop in for dinner or Sunday brunch; hit up the meat raffle on Fridays; play bingo or bargo every weeknight; and show us your pipes at karaoke on Thursdays; there's always something happening!

🍎Summer had a good run, but here at Visit Richfield HQ, we are firmly Team Fall. Don't have weekend plans coming up? Good; now you have two!

Saturday, Sept. 26 (noon-2 p.m.): Hit up the Harvest Festival at the Richfield Community Center at 70th and Nicollet for recipe samples, garden tours, and local ag talk. (Yes, there are snacks!)

Sunday, Sept. 27: Put your kids to work at Apple Cidering! Let them crank the old-school masher, mix up different apple varieties, and sample their creations. (Register for this one; check the link in the comments.)

Didn't get enough of the State Fair this year? Then you can't miss Richfield Penn Fest this weekend! Food trucks, free music and dance performances, the Art Zone, the Pet Zone, the classic car show, BMX bike demos, a street magic show...you name it, they've got it!

This annual event is so popular that this year, they've added another hour! Hit up Penn Avenue from noon to 5 this Sunday, Sept. 20. The avenue will be closed to car traffic so you can wander to your heart's content to check out the bounce houses, try out the hose at the fire station, and get a free root-beer float from Lunds & Byerlys Richfield.

Don't miss:
--Performances by the Percolators Band, The Positones, and Mexico Lindo, just to name a few
--Food trucks including Blue Loon Concessions, Cheeky Chicks, Eggroll Queen, and many, many more

🍎🌼It might not feel like fall yet, but fall hours are here! Sleep in an extra hour on Saturdays; the Richfield Farmers Market opens at 8 a.m. for the rest of the season.

It's an hour later, but the Richfield Farmers Market at Veterans Park is the same great place to grab your fruits and veggies, specialty food items, gifts, and flowers; plus hear great live music and get a free yoga class at 8:45! 🧘‍♀️

Unity in the Community is Richfield's annual celebration of the many cultures that call Richfield home. Bring your family, and stop by to see unique live performances; meet Richfield police officers and firefighters; get connected with community resources; and even get new backpacks and school supplies to get the school year started in style!

This year's event is this Thursday, August 13 at Veterans Park from 4 to 7 p.m. Ice cream will be available (first-come, first-serve), and kids can enjoy hands-on crafts and science activities as well as performances by Ritmo Latino, Ha Family Lion Dance Troupe, and IBall4life basketball entertainment. 🍕🍨Can you ever have too much pizza? For this week's edition of Where-Should-We-Eat Wednesday, allow us to introduce Nicolo Pizza & Gelato!

Located at the corner of 66th St. and Richfield Parkway in the Cedar Point Commons area, Nicolo is part of the Eat Your Heart Out hospitality company that's bringing fresh Italian food and gelato to the south metro.

Nicolo is serving up pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and yes, gelato...and best of all, they're a company who gives back. 20% of all profits go to support Every Meal, a Minnesota nonprofit that helps fight childhood hunger by providing food to families in need through Minnesota schools. Nicolo is not only good food, it's good neighbors!

Need something fun to do this weekend? We've got not one but TWO awesome events going on in Richfield, practically right next door to each other!

Start the day at the Richfield Historical Society for their annual ice cream social. Ice cream for purchase, inflatables, a visit from Happy Jolly Llamas, and live music from Bluefish MN! Not to mention tours of the historic Bartholomew House; all going on from 1 to 4 p.m. Free entry!

Then head over to Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555 for their big Fred Babcock Memorial and 250th family celebration: Food court, kids' activities, and live music from Verge from 1 to 5 p.m.

The perfect way to kick off your August!
