Tzu Chi USA- Central Region, Dallas Chapter This is the official page of the Tzu Chi USA Central Region The Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 in Hualien by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen.

From thirty housewives saving $0.02 a day from their grocery shopping in rural Taiwan, the Tzu Chi Foundation has expanded to touch the lives of millions of people around the world. Dharma Master Cheng Yen believes that the lack of altruistic love for others has been the root of many problems in this world, but with sustained kindness, mercy and giving, harmony and peace can be achieved. Thus, the

foundation’s guiding principle is to “help the poor and educate the rich” – to give material aid to the needy and inspire love and humanity in both givers and receivers. With the four missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanistic Culture, we seek to improve the lives of those we touch in tangible ways. Dallas is home to Tzu Chi USA’s Central Region Chapter, which was established here in 1992. The pioneering spirit that built Dallas is alive and well today, and yet, one third of children here live in households below the poverty line. For an organization like Tzu Chi, Dallas is rich in opportunities to help those in need.

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Tzu Chi Central Region Scholarship!

On July 11, Tzu Chi USA's Central Region Office awarded three college-bound high school graduates with $1,500 scholarships to support their higher education journeys. Selected through a comprehensive application, interview, and home visit process, these students demonstrated financial need, strong character, and a commitment to serving their communities.

More than financial assistance, the scholarships represent Tzu Chi's belief that education has the power to transform lives. As these students begin the next chapter of their academic journeys, we hope they will continue to pursue their dreams, give back to their communities, and carry forward the spirit of compassion.

🐉🥢 Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival at Tzu Chi USA Central Region!

Dragon Boat Festival is a cherished Chinese tradition marked by dragon boat races and the sharing of zongzi: sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, with fillings that vary across regions and families.

In the spirit of community and giving, our volunteers came together to wrap an incredible 3,914 zongzi in several days! 💚 From folding bamboo leaves to carefully filling and tying each dumpling, volunteers shared laughter, teamwork, and cultural traditions while supporting a meaningful cause.

All proceeds from the zongzi sales will go toward charitable fundraising efforts, turning a beloved holiday tradition into an opportunity to help others.

💙 Three Organizations Unite to Support Dallas Apartment Explosion Survivors

On May 28, a natural gas leak led to a devastating explosion and five-alarm fire at The Clyde Apartments in Dallas' Oak Cliff neighborhood. The blast, reportedly caused by accidental damage to a gas pipeline during construction, destroyed the entire 23-unit apartment complex, claiming three lives, injuring at least five people, and displacing all residents.

Immediately following the disaster, Central Region Executive Director Kuo Cheng Ko connected with Travis Houston, Deputy Director of the City of Dallas Emergency Management & Crisis Response, to coordinate relief efforts. Together, they arranged a distribution event at the Tzu Chi USA Central Region Office on June 6.

With residents losing nearly all of their belongings, the City of Dallas partnered with Uber, which generously provided free round-trip transportation for survivors traveling to receive assistance. This collaborative effort brought together the City of Dallas, Uber, and Tzu Chi to support affected families during their time of need.

Many survivors are Spanish-speaking and have limited English proficiency, so several brought English-speaking friends to help with interpretation during the event.

On June 6, Tzu Chi volunteers provided aid to 12 households, benefiting a total of 18 individuals. Through compassion, partnership, and community support, hope and relief reached families as they began the long journey toward recovery.

This past weekend, we joined hands and hearts with the community for a triple celebration honoring Buddha Day, Mother’s Day, and Tzu Chi Day. 💐🙏❤️

This year’s gathering carried special meaning, too, as we also celebrated Tzu Chi’s 60th Anniversary, marking six decades of compassion, humanitarian relief, and service.

Families, volunteers, and neighbors gathered in gratitude to offer prayers for peace and reflect on the spirit of kindness and unity that connects us all. And indeed, throughout the celebration, moments of reflection and heartfelt appreciation abounded, filling the air with warmth and sincerity. May there be peace in our hearts, and blessings for all beings.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this meaningful occasion truly memorable!

When tornadoes struck North Texas in late April, families in Runaway Bay faced devastating losses: homes damaged, roads closed, and dozens displaced.

In response, we mobilized quickly. After on-site assessments and close coordination with local officials, volunteers delivered cash cards and care items on May 2 to support recovery efforts.

With the support of the Wise County Office of Emergency Management, over 110 individuals received assistance with additional help provided for families facing critical financial situations. Volunteers also shared Tzu Chi’s mission, eco-friendly blankets made from recycled materials, and words of comfort, bringing not just relief, but hope.

We’re grateful to local leaders, including Senator Tan Parker, Commissioner Colby Shawn, and Mayor Herman White, for standing with the community during this time.

💙 Together, we turn compassion into action.
