The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law asked the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Georgetown University for allegedly failing to register a contract between Georgetown’s Bridge Initiative and Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 23, of Minneapolis, was sentenced April 22, 2026, to 8.5 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Hassan had consumed and reposted ISIS propaganda, downloaded weapons and explosives manuals, and publicly called for jihad and a caliphate.

Shots were fired April 25, 2026, during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., while President Donald Trump was in attendance, forcing him off stage. The suspected gunman, Cole Thomas Allen, 31, a tutor from Torrance, Calif., with advanced degrees in mechanical engineering and computer science, had no prior criminal record.
