Proceeds will go towards the prayer bear program at Cook Children's Hospital & funeral costs. Hugs from Ethan was created to honor Ethan Henry Skaggs who was born into this world on November 17, 2017 to Brent & Ashley Skaggs. Shortly after Ethan was born he was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, (Edwards Syndrome), a chromosomal condition that causes severe developmental delays due to an extra 18th chromo
some. Edwards syndrome has no treatment and is usually fatal before birth or within the first year of life. After Ethan was born he was transferred to Cook Children’s Hospital in downtown Fort Worth. Each day his brother Colton and sister Destiny, visited Ethan and were given a “Prayer Bear” by the hospital. These bears made a tremendous impact on his siblings, giving them comfort as they struggled to understand the news they were given. On November 20, 2017, after fighting as long as he could, Ethan went to his forever home with Jesus. Ethan’s life here on Earth was short, but the impact his life has had on others is enormous! Because of the impact the bears made on our children, as parents we decided we wanted to contribute to the hospital each year on Ethan’s Birthday. We wanted to help other children at Cook Children’s Hospital by donating “Prayer Bears” so that other children can experience the comfort that the bears gave Colton and Destiny. Our goal is to increase the number of bears we receive, not only for Ethan's Birthday, but year round to support families at Cook Children’s Hospital! We hope Hugs from Ethan will continue to grow and impact our community. We want to bring awareness to infant child loss and help families who also walk through the grief. After losing a child unexpectedly we know the financial burden it can have on a family. As our non-profit grows we are hoping to raise funds to help families in our community for funeral costs as well. Hugs from Ethan is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by Ethan’s parents Brent and Ashley Skaggs.
