Thank a union member! This Labor Day, please remember why it was started...to recognize the contributions of the American worker and the role of trade unions.

Established on June 28, 1894 by Congress, the first Monday in September celebrates the greater labor movement and the effect it has had on elevating the status of working people.

From our 11,000+ International Association of Fire Fighters union members, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable day! And to our firefighters, emergency medical workers and communications officers working this holiday, thank you for your service to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

This month we celebrate an achievement that should make any local affiliate proud. 100% operational participation. With 42 members and growing as the department grows, we could not be prouder of our members. Our purpose is simple. Advocate for our people ensure fair process is given to all members. The members of L5431 wish a Happy birthday to our members with birthdays in August!

Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters at Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management along with the family and loved ones.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Firefighter Mason Fercovic-Ortegel, who tragically died in an off-duty drowning incident at Lake Anna. Mason was only 24 years old.

This is a heartbreaking loss for Mason’s family, friends, coworkers, and our entire FREM family. We ask that you keep his family and everyone who knew and loved Mason in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Our department will stand beside Mason’s family and our members in the days ahead. We will do everything we can to support them, care for one another, and honor Mason and his service to our community.

Please continue to lift up Mason’s family, friends, and fellow department members.

Rest easy, Mason. You will not be forgotten.

Super proud moment! We congratulate Vice President Ben Ullman on obtaining his nationally registered Paramedic Certification! Ben has put a lot of time and energy into obtaining this certification on his own and we are very proud of him!
