Akela's World Cub Scout Camp: Opening in 1993, Akela’s World Cub Scout Camp provides opportunities for Cub Scout & Webelos to experience camping and the great outdoors. Akela’s World creates exactly that; another "world" by allowing its unique theme to take complete control of the experience. The programs allow challenge, creativity, adventure, and learning. We provide many advancement opportunit

ies that take advantage of our beautiful outdoor setting. Tesomas Scout Camp: The most notable portion of the CLSR is Camp Tesomas, which has developed into a camp of regional and national fame, due to its popular summer camp program. Boy Scout Troops from across the nation have camped at Tesomas. Founded in 1935, it currently serves over 3,000 campers per summer. Hanna Venture Base: Hanna Venture Base opened in 2000 as a place for Boy Scouts and Venture to experience high adventure. The facility features an indoor climbing wall and an outdoor 60’ climbing tower, with walls for rappelling and climbing. Week-long Hanna Venture Base Treks are taken by both Scouts and Venturers. Trek destinations include the Apostle Islands and the Porcupine Mountains. The base was named after, and financially supported by Al Hanna, whose achievements include climbing Mount Everest.

This summer, we’ve renamed a few of our program areas to better reflect the experiences they offer; while keeping the same Tesomas Experience.

🔹 Scout-Skills (formerly Eagle Quest & Scoutcraft) is led by Brock Erdman in his sixth year on staff. With deep experience and legendary flair (he’s the camp’s beloved snowcone salesman, locked in eternal rivalry with a soup-slinger), Brock is ready to guide new Scouts to success. His favorite Dining Hall paddle? 2019;his favorite camp theme ever.

🔹 Range & Target Activities (formerly Shooting Sports) will be directed by two long-time leaders: Rob Kissner and Edward Vaillaincourt III, with nearly 15 years of experience between them. Safety, fun, and precision are their focus. Mr. Kissner’s favorite paddle is from 2018, his first year on staff, while Eddy’s top pick is the iconic 2019 design.

Earlier this week, Crystal Lake Scout Reservation hosted a visit from the National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP). We're proud to announce that Camp Tesomas, Akela's World, and Crystal Lake Scout Reservation are Nationally Accredited for Operation in 2025! Thank you to all our staff and volunteers for their commitment to truly making Crystal Lake Scout Reservation a place where Camping is King.

Throughout our training weeks, the Crystal Lake Scout Reservation staff have been counting down the days until "Christmas." The day has finally arrived as Akela's World welcomes their first campers of the summer!

As we grow nearer and nearer to Campers arriving, we thought you should get to know some of our directors!

Gavin Bahr is looking forward to returning to Personal Wellness this year as his first summer as a director! Outside of camp, he enjoys playing music and video games, and he will be attending UWSP for Music Education. His favorite paddle in the Dining Hall is the 2015 paddle, due to the Unique design its location in the Dining Hall!

Sam is serving this year as the director of the new Tesomas Business Center, housing the Trading Post and camp’s Business and Technology area. This is Sam’s fifth year on staff, back after taking a break to work a “big boy” job. In his spare time, Sam likes working on his car, a 1974 VW Beetle, and any other project he can get his hands on. His favorite Dining Hall paddle comes from 1970 for the 50th Anniversary of Samoset Council!

Alex Nelson is returning back to camp as this year's Health Officer. As a student at Marquette's Nursing School, Alex finds himself often in the outdoors and travelling the country, when he's not doing homework. Returning for his fifth summer on staff, Alex is prepared to ensure that all of our participants have a safe and fun time at Camp this summer. His favorite paddle is the 2015 Paddle as well, due to its iconic design!
