Great Tool for Finding Lake Information

The Wisconsin Water Explorer tool allows users to explore characteristics of Wisconsin's water resources and was designed as a companion tool to the Surface Water Data Viewer (SWDV) (the SWDV is a tool that shows maps related to Wisconsin's water resources).

Many of our lakes in Wisconsin are a part of the Citizens Lake Monitoring Network Program. Volunteers throughout the state collect data on a lakes level of clarity, chlorophyll, phosphorus, and if able to, dissolved oxygen. The data collected is organized in easy to read graphs and tables.

The lakes and AIS viewer is an interactive web map that allows users to search and map AIS and lake monitoring locations, watercraft inspection sites and grants projects across the state. Users can also view the geographical distribution of invasive plants, fish and invertebrates.

What are AIS Pathways?

Pathways are simply the routes by which invasive species are introduced into new lakes, rivers, wetlands and other environments. The state of Wisconsin focuses on seven different major pathways of spread. The seven are:

1. Canals, dams, and diversions
2. Maritime commerce
3. Aquatic surveying and monitoring activities
4. Transportation and utility corridors
5. Organisms in Trade
6. Non recreational fishing and aquaculture
7. Recreational activities and service providers
