Rhinelander District Library Foundation The Rhinelander District Library Foundation supports and celebrates the facilities and services of our library.

The Rhinelander District Library Foundation supports and celebrates our library facilities, services and programs. The original Carnegie library building was constructed in 1903-1904. To help fund the 1985 building addition, the RDLF, then known as Friends of the Library, raised $250,000 with its “Pete the Penny” campaign. Our work to improve the facility continues thanks to generous community sup

port. Our mission is to raise private donations for capital improvements or special programs not funded through annual operating budgets.

📚 Meet the Board: Deb Richardson📚

Deb grew up in Rhinelander and graduated from Rhinelander High School. She has called Rhinelander home for most of her life and spent 34 years working as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital before retiring in 2019.

Deb’s love of reading began early—and her collection of Nancy Drew books is proof! 📖 As a young teen, she collected Nancy Drew books and still has many of her mother’s original copies, published in the 1930s. Since retiring, her love of reading has only grown. She’s participating in reading challenges, with a goal of reading 100 books in 2026—and she’s already more than halfway there! 🎉

One of Deb’s favorite activities is searching for books at thrift stores, garage sales, and used bookstores. For her, finding a great book is all part of the fun!

Deb joined the Rhinelander District Library Foundation Board after retiring in 2019 and became Corresponding Secretary in 2022. She was drawn to the Foundation because she wanted to find ways to promote and support the library.

Outside of the library, Deb stays busy giving back to her community. She is a member of the GFWC Rhinelander Woman’s Club, volunteers at the local food pantry, and enjoys the many volunteer opportunities available throughout Rhinelander.

When she’s not reading or volunteering, Deb enjoys traveling, golfing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband love living in Rhinelander and watching their community grow and change over the years.

We’re so grateful for Deb’s years of service, her passion for reading, and her commitment to the Rhinelander community. ❤️📚

📚 **Meet the Board: Pam Johnson** 📚

Pam became Vice President in **January 2026** and is also a member of the **Friends of the Rhinelander District Library**, where you may spot her volunteering at the **Re-Tale Shop**.

Pam’s love of reading started at a young age. Her parents instilled a lifelong appreciation for books, and when those Scholastic book order forms came home from school, they never refused her request for a new book! 📖 She spent countless hours at the library growing up—and that love of the library continues to this day.

Now retired, Pam’s days are filled with some of her favorite things: spending time at the library, giving plenty of cuddles to her **three hound dogs**, and making sure her furry companions always have a constant supply of treats! 🐾❤️

We’re so grateful to have Pam’s passion for reading, dedication to our library, and commitment to our community as part of the Rhinelander District Library Foundation!

📚 **Meet the Board: Cate Hallisy** 📚

After moving to Rhinelander eight years ago to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, **Cate Hallisy** quickly fell in love with the community and its welcoming small-town spirit. A lifelong advocate for books, reading, and libraries, Cate spent many years leading a volunteer-based adult literacy program before joining the Rhinelander District Library Foundation Board in **May 2025**. Just six months later, she was elected **Board President**.

Cate is actively involved throughout the community as a member of Nicolet College's Learning in Retirement, the Rhinelander Housing Authority, the Library's Fiction Club, Rhinelander Area Retired Educators, the American Association of University Women, and the Rhinelander Northwoods Quilters—where she happily knits alongside the quilters. Originally from Michigan, she also enjoys traveling and learning about people, places, and their stories.

Cate believes that passionate volunteers can accomplish extraordinary things and is proud to serve alongside a dedicated board committed to ensuring the Rhinelander District Library continues to grow and serve our community for generations to come. As Margaret Mead famously said, *"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."* 💙
