Rhinelander District Library Foundation The Rhinelander District Library Foundation supports and celebrates the facilities and services of our library.

The Rhinelander District Library Foundation supports and celebrates our library facilities, services and programs. The original Carnegie library building was constructed in 1903-1904. To help fund the 1985 building addition, the RDLF, then known as Friends of the Library, raised $250,000 with its “Pete the Penny” campaign. Our work to improve the facility continues thanks to generous community sup

port. Our mission is to raise private donations for capital improvements or special programs not funded through annual operating budgets.

Who is Ced Vig?

Ced’s vision back in 1985 was to purchase new, hard-cover books each year for all sections of our library, including adult, young adult, and the children’s departments. We continue his vision today and the fund provides 1/3 of the library’s new books.

“We are so grateful for the Holiday Book Fund that enables us to purchase quality, hard-cover books we might not otherwise be able to afford. The monies keep our collection Up-to-date as those are the most expensive books for purchase,” says Denise Chojnacki, the Children’s Services Manager.

The Rhinelander District Library Foundation is pleased to announce the extension and expansion of its Matching Funds Campaign, made possible by a very generous anonymous donation.

Launched on June 30, 2025, with an initial $120,000 pledged, the anonymous donor’s vision was to inspire the community to match this gift in support of the Capital Campaign to renovate and expand the 128 year old Rhinelander District Library.

The donor has now increased their contribution by an additional $8,000 – $1,000 for each year of the Library’s history, and has extended the matching timeframe through December 2, 2025, also known as Giving Tuesday.

The community has already responded with enthusiasm and generosity. Since the launch, individuals, families, and businesses have contributed $89,360.36.

There is still time to make an impact. Donations can be made securely online at https://rdlfoundation.org/ or mailed to:

Rhinelander District Library Foundation PO Box 1225 Rhinelander, WI 54501

To date, the Capital Campaign has raised $1,314,888.04 toward the $7 million goal to renovate and expand the Library.

The renovation and expansion project will add 7,650 square feet of new space, modernize the Children’s area, create meeting and study rooms, add restrooms on the main level, replace the 40 year old elevator to ensure full accessibility, and improve entrances and windows to protect the historic building’s integrity.

Even our youngest patrons get in on helping with our building expansion/renovation project. This young entrepreneur raised $67.50 through her lemonade stand toward the current donation challenge. Well done! For more information on the challenge and giving information, follow the link to the Rhinelander District Library Foundation in the comments.
