“Rhinebeck’s Movies Under the Starrs” is a joint program of The Town of Rhinebeck Recreation Department, The Rhinebeck Lions Club, and The Starr Library. Under the auspices of the Recreation Department, the Town Recreation Advisory Committee shows movies in the Thompson-Mazzarella Town Park during the summer months. The program began in 2017 with 9 movies shown and continued for 2 more years befor

e going on hiatus during the pandemic. Shows resumed in 2023, and we are back in 2025 for our sixth year, starting on Thursday, July 17th. Throughout the program’s first five years, hundreds of residents have come out and enjoyed dozens of family –friendly movies free of charge! Licensing fees for the public showings are paid by sponsors, including the Town, Library, and Lions Club, as well as local businesses and community-minded organizations and resident. The Rhinebeck Lions Club raised and contributed funds to mount a retractable screen in the park, and the Starr Library has provided audio-visual equipment, graphics for advertising, and rents the DVDs used to show the movies, and both of them - along with the Town – provide publicity for the program through their email and social media networks.
