Surrounded by silence
Except for the words “remember you are dust and to dust you return.” The sign of the cross is placed on your forehead and a commitment made to set apart the weeks before Resurrection Sunday, in repentance, in drawing near to Christ, and in focusing on the mission which is to Go and make disciples.

During this time I want to meditate on the things that we surround ourselves with, that fill up our lives, maybe that even distract us from our calling and mission. Not all of these things are bad but they may not be good either. On this night, as we start the season of Lent, maybe we can do what is written in Psalm 46:10, “to be still, and know that I am God.”

What do we surround ourselves with? Do we live in a way that is honest with the Lord? Honest with ourselves? Let’s journey together over the next several weeks.

Today, on Ash Wednesday, we pause in humility and gratitude.

As we enter this sacred season of Lent, we also give thanks that the Global Methodist Church has officially surpassed 7,000 churches worldwide. 🎉

This moment reminds us that growth isn’t just measured in numbers — it’s found in repentance, renewal, and lives being transformed by Jesus Christ. As Wesleyans, we are called to holiness of heart and life, to return to the Lord, and to carry His love into every community.

From ashes to hope.
From repentance to revival.
From local churches to a global mission.

👇 Tell us your church name + location in the comments so we can journey together this Lenten season.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
And yet — God is still moving. 🌍🙏

When most people hear “holy,” they think:
Perfect.
Rule-keeping.
Morally superior.
Religious.

But that’s not what the word actually means. The primary biblical words for “holy” are:
Hebrew: Qādôsh (קָדוֹשׁ)
Greek: Hágios (ἅγιος)

And they don’t primarily mean “morally flawless.”
They mean:
Set apart.
Distinct.
Other.

When Isaiah sees the Lord and the angels cry,
“Holy, holy, holy…”
they aren’t chanting,
“Moral, moral, moral.”

They are declaring:
There is no one like Him.
He is in a category by Himself.
Completely other.

Holiness isn’t just about behavior. It’s about belonging. When God calls you holy, He’s not saying you perform perfectly.

He’s saying:
“You are Mine.
You are set apart.
You are marked as different.”

Yes, holiness produces purity.
Yes, it transforms behavior.
But the root of holiness isn’t rule-keeping.
It’s separation unto God.

So when Scripture says, “Be holy, for I am holy,”
it’s a call to live distinct.
Different from the world.
Aligned with Him.
Holy doesn’t mean “religious.”
It means set apart for God.
And that changes how you live.

Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35

We'll be discussing these topics and more. Join us at the Reynoldsburg Library Monday, February 2nd in meeting room 2.
