🌼 Member Spotlight: Ashlee Murray 🌼

Our featured MGC member this week is Ashlee Murray, who joined the Monticello Garden Club in 2025!

Ashlee loves spending time outdoors with her daughter, especially working together in their vegetable garden. 🌻🥕 There’s something extra special about sharing a love of gardening with the next generation!

A fun fact about Ashlee’s garden is that it is still a very young garden! Every flower and bed was put in by Ashlee herself within the last four years. What started as a blank canvas has quickly grown into a beautiful space filled with color.

Even the rock borders have a story! 🪨 Every rock used around her garden beds was dug right out of the ground on their own property and repurposed into the landscape.

Ashlee’s flowers are a wonderful example of what can grow in just a few short years! 🌱💚

✈️ Member Spotlight ✈️

This week we’re excited to spotlight MGC President, Richard Smith

Richard’s love of gardening began at just 10 years old, when he got his first taste of the gardening world with a little trial and error growing green beans. What started as a childhood experiment has grown into a lifelong passion.

Richard joined the Monticello Garden Club in 2007 and has continued to share his knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of gardening with our club and community.

As a U.S. Air Force Veteran, Richard has found a unique way to combine two of his passions — gardening and aviation — throughout his landscape. His creativity and personal touches make his garden a reflection of both his experiences and the things he loves.

We’re grateful to have Richard as our president and as such a wonderful part of the Monticello Garden Club! 🌿

This week’s featured garden belongs to the talented Nancy Jordan.

With over 40 years of gardening experience, Nancy has truly mastered the art of creating balance and beauty in her landscape. From working with shade to managing curious deer— she handles these common gardening challenges in stride.

Her garden is a wonderful reflection of her dedication and passion. What a beautiful space to enjoy and admire! 🌿

This year, we’ll be featuring some of our members’ gardens and favorite flowers—highlighting the special moments every gardener holds dear in their backyard.

Our featured member this week is Marianne Janesku

Marianne has been a lifelong gardener and a member of MGC since 2020, when she relocated to Monticello. She enjoys spending time in her yard with her two rescue beagles, Penny and Poppy 🐶

The Monticello Garden Club is proud to support our local youth and community by donating flower pots to the White County 4-H Fairgrounds for fair week! Located at the Fair Extension Office by the Pork Producers stand.

As part of our mission to promote interest and education in horticulture, landscaping, and environmental stewardship, we love finding ways to give back and help our community and youth bloom.

We are especially honored to contribute to a program like 4-H, where young people grow through hands-on experiences and truly “learn by doing”. These values reflect the heart of what both gardening and 4-H are all about—learning, growing, and serving our community together.

Be sure to stop by the fairgrounds this week to enjoy all the hard work and dedication from White County’s 4-Hers! 🍀

The next meeting of the Monticello Garden Club will be this Thursday, July 16 at 630 at the Nature Center at Altheer Park. Interested in gardening? Come see what we do. All are welcome.
This is one of the clubs project, The Wishing Well Garden at Monticello City Park.

The Monticello-Union Township Public Library is hosting the annual Broadway Art Show July 24th & 25th. The public is welcome to attend and enjoy as well as purchase local artists’ work on Saturday, July 25th from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The Library welcomes Art Patrons for a special first view of the artwork and artists in this year’s Broadway Art Show on July 24th from 5 PM to 8 PM. We will have refreshments and live music for patrons to enjoy as they view and browse artists' work. To learn more about how to become an Art Patron please visit our website (Monticello.lib.in.us) or give the Library a call at 574-583-2665 ext 3304.

Since 2008, the Monticello Public Library has hosted the Broadway Art Show as an annual fundraiser to supplement the library’s operating budget. The proceeds from the show have been used to offset the cost for services, programs, and maintenance to the building and grounds.

We are excited to host the event in our newly renovated space at 321 W Broadway Street. As part of our renovations we added an expansive gallery space. This will allow for exhibits to be displayed year round, along with spotlighting even more local artists and their work.
