Today marks 31 years since the Srebrenica genocide—three decades since 8,372 lives were taken by Serbian forces under General Ratko Mladić. We remember the fathers, sons, brothers, mothers, and daughters who were brutally killed in not only Srebrenica, but in Foča, Prijedor, Višegrad, Zvornik, Sarajevo, and so many other places across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The pain of that time still lives on, but so does the strength of the survivors. Their voices, their truth, and their unbreakable spirit continue to shine a light on the horrors they endured and the justice they deserve.

Let this not be just a day of mourning, but a day of promise. A promise that we will remember the past with honesty, that we will speak for those who can no longer speak, and that we will act with compassion, courage, and conviction to build a better future. Let us teach our children the truth, honor the memories of the victims, and uphold the dignity of every human life, regardless of race, religion, or place of birth.

May the souls of the victims rest in eternal peace. To Srebrenica and all cities that suffered- we will never forget.

Upcoming Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina!

Here is a reminder of the upcoming elections, and a simple summary of what voters can expect.

Citizens who are 18 years or older and registered in the voter register can vote. Citizens living abroad can vote!

To register, here are some simple steps:

Steps to register from abroad:
1. Go to the official e-Elections portal:
* e-Izbori (Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
2. Create an account and select the option for registration of voters voting outside Bosnia and Herzegovina.
3. Complete the application and upload the required identification documents (typically a valid Bosnian ID document and any other documents requested by the Commission).
4. After approval, you will receive instructions for voting, usually by mail unless you are registered to vote at a designated Bosnian diplomatic mission where available.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Building the Future

Boston, Massachusetts | May 29–30, 2026

On Friday, we commemorated BiH’s May, 1992 admission to the United Nations at the Massachusetts State House, with distinguished guests and speakers including Senator Lydia Edwards, Representative Jessica Giannino, and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija. The program included a presentation on Bosnian history by Edina Skaljić and a moving performance of “Jedna si jedina” by Nura Borogovac.

The second day continued at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University with a panel discussion featuring Admir Masic, Ned Lomigora, Zlatko Lagumdžija, Vesko Garčević, Professor Nermina Mujagić, and Ismar Volić, moderated by Amanda Hukanović.

We concluded with a dinner gathering bringing together community and friends, with remarks from the Mayor of Revere, Senator Paul Mark, Professor Nermina Mujagić, and Adnan Hadrovic, followed by a cultural performance by KUD Ljiljani.

We are grateful to all who joined us in these meaningful days of remembrance, dialogue, and celebration, and many thanks to all those who participated!

The following day, Saturday May 30th, will feature a Panel Discussion on Education, Business, and EU Integration. It will be at Boston University – Pardee School for Global Studies from 1:30– 3:30 PM.

We will close our two-day event on Saturday May 30th with a formal dinner. It will occur at the Hilton Garden Inn Boston Logan Airport from 6:30-10:00 PM.

We want to extend our thanks to the speakers and guests who will be joining us throughout these three sessions!
