We closed out the LIUNA 27th International Union Convention in Las Vegas the Mid-Atlantic way, together at our regional pool party. 💪🧡🌴

Great to have General President Brent Booker and General Secretary-Treasurer Michael F. Sabitoni there to celebrate with our brothers and sisters. One strong union, one unforgettable week.

Three days. One powerful showing from the Mid-Atlantic. 💪🧡

The 27th LIUNA International Convention wrapped up Wednesday after three packed days in Las Vegas, and our Region was represented from beginning to end.

Our delegates and leaders were on the Convention floor alongside LIUNA brothers and sisters from across the United States and Canada, taking part in the business of our union, hearing from leadership, and representing the members, Locals, and District Councils that sent us here.

And there was a lot for the Mid-Atlantic to be proud of.

We saw leaders from our Region take the stage. We saw our delegates have a voice in the work of the Convention. We saw longtime Laborers and the next generation sitting side by side. And everywhere we looked, there were familiar faces representing communities from across the Mid-Atlantic.

That’s what these photos are about.

The people who make this Region what it is, and the members back home they came here to represent.

Thank you to every Mid-Atlantic delegate, leader, and member who was part of an incredible three days.

We showed up strong. We represented our members proudly. And we made sure the Mid-Atlantic was heard. 🔥

𝟱𝟰 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗿. 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿. 💪🧡

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Taking the stage at the LIUNA 27th International Union Convention, Sam spoke with the perspective of someone who has spent more than half a century serving this union, and who understands that leadership comes with sacrifice.

Sacrifice from the leaders who came before you. Sacrifice from the family that stands behind you. And sacrifice from you when your members need someone willing to stand up for them.

Sam put it better than we ever could. “𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲, 𝘀𝗼 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁.”

That’s not something you learn from a title.

That’s something you learn from 54 years of putting the union and its members first.

And if there was any question about where Brother Sam’s heart still is after all those years, he made sure the entire Convention heard him.

“𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗔 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗡!” 🔥

“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.” 💪🧡

That’s leadership according to Ryan Boyer, and yesterday, he brought that message to the stage at the LIUNA 27th International Union Convention as he accepted his position as LIUNA Vice President.

A proud 31-year member of Laborers' Local 332, Ryan spoke about growing up in North Philadelphia, the leaders who came before him and the responsibility that comes with representing the men and women of this union.

He told the story of the moment he learned what leadership really meant. At a packed union meeting on a hot day, there wasn’t enough water for every member. When Ryan was offered a bottle, the answer from his leader was simple. If there isn’t enough for everyone, no one drinks.

𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁.

That spirit has shaped Ryan’s leadership throughout Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic, alongside people he considers family, including our Regional Manager and fellow LIUNA Vice President Philip Ameris, whom Ryan proudly called his “brother from another mother.”

As Ryan said, the two have “crisscrossed the state of Pennsylvania” together for years. And now, they stand together as LIUNA Vice Presidents, carrying the voices of our members forward.

Ryan’s message from Philadelphia has always been clear.

𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗟. 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘.

Now he’s bringing that same fight, that same commitment, and that same voice to the entire International Union.

“𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗱𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗱.”

This was a proud moment for the Mid-Atlantic Region as Philip Ameris, a 32-year member of LIUNA Local 1058 and our Regional Manager, took the stage at the LIUNA 27th International Union Convention to accept his position as LIUNA Vice President.

Philip spoke about growing up above his parents’ restaurant in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, the example set by his father, the people who helped shape him throughout his career, and the family and LIUNA brothers and sisters who have stood beside him along the way.

But at the heart of his remarks was the responsibility that comes with leadership and the people that responsibility is ultimately about, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀.

When Philip became Regional Manager last August, he set a goal to unite the Mid-Atlantic and serve our membership. Today, he thanked the Business Managers, Business Agents, organizers, training directors, staff, and leaders across our Region who have helped move that mission forward.

As Philip said from the stage, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲.”

From a Local 1058 Laborer in Pittsburgh to the General Executive Board of the greatest union in the trades, this is a proud moment for Philip, his family, and the entire Mid-Atlantic Region.

Day Two of the LIUNA 27th International Union Convention is underway, and the Mid-Atlantic is back on the Convention floor representing the members we’re proud to serve every day.

There’s important work happening here, plenty of familiar faces and a whole lot of LIUNA pride in the room.

Our Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager and LIUNA Vice President Philip Ameris took the stage today alongside leaders across our great union at the 27th International Union Convention.
