Dear RYA Tackle Football Parents,
The Reston Youth Association tackle football season begins on Monday, August 3, at 6:00 PM ET.
Please have all players arrive by 5:20 PM ET for check-in. Arriving on time will allow us to complete check-in and begin practice promptly.
Required for Every Practice
All players must:
Wear a properly fitted mouthpiece at every practice
Bring their own clearly labeled water bottle to every practice
Players will not be permitted to participate without a mouthpiece. Please make sure your child arrives prepared each day.
First-Day Requirements
For Monday’s practice:
No helmets
No shoulder pads
No full pads
Mouthpieces are required
Players should wear athletic clothing and cleats
Nutrition and Hydration
The weather is expected to be hot and humid throughout the week. Players should begin hydrating well before practice and continue drinking water throughout the day.
Please make sure your player eats a light, balanced meal approximately two to three hours before practice. Avoid heavy, greasy, or fried foods immediately before activity. Good options include lean protein, fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta, or a light sandwich.
Players should not arrive on an empty stomach, but they should also avoid eating a large meal immediately before practice.
Acclimatization Schedule
Monday, August 3 — Day 1
No helmets. Mouthpieces and water bottles are required.
Tuesday, August 4 — Day 2
Helmets only. No shoulder pads or full pads.
Wednesday, August 5 — Day 3
Helmets and shoulder pads.
Thursday, August 6 — Day 4
Full pads are permitted, but no full-contact drills.
Friday, August 7 — Day 5
Full-contact drills may begin, provided the player has completed the first three required acclimatization practices.
This requirement applies individually to each player. A player who begins practice late must complete their own three acclimatization practices before participating in full-contact drills.
Thank you for helping us begin the season safely, responsibly, and on time. We are looking forward to a strong opening week and a successful season.
Respectfully,
Jay Cobbs and Tony Ellis
