Fairfax County friends: Are you concerned about data center proliferation around us? Think it can't happen in Reston (yes it can)?
Learn what and how you can HELP!!
COMMENT WRITING WEBINAR: PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD EXTENDED FOR FAIRFAX COUNTY DATA CENTER ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
WHEN: Thursday, July 25, 12:00 noon – 1:00 PM
WHERE: Zoom- https://act.chesapeakeclimate.org/page/70458/data/1?locale=en-US
DETAILS: Come to a virtual comment writing party for residents to ask for stronger data center regulations. You’ll get the link and sample text for your comment to be heard. We need all the voices we can to send letters to your supervisor and Chairman McKay. Local environmental organizations support stronger regulations for data centers:
· No by-right data centers within 1 mile of metro (this space is for housing and walkable businesses)
· Buildings and noisy, polluting equipment should be 500 ft. from residential
· Preserve the provision that clearly states that new rules in the Zoning Ordinance Amendment (ZOA) would apply to submitted, but not yet approved, data center site applications.
· Require all data center proposed developments be subject to Special Exception review.
The Board of Supervisors approved a motion which could negate the Planning Commission’s recommendation that all data centers in-process (but not yet approved) adhere to new, stronger ZOA standards. On July 30, the Board will consider the opposite language to instead allow data centers that are already in-process to be grandfathered under the old, weaker rules.
