"I can't help but think that a lot of the poverty that we have is by design."

Poverty doesn't happen in a vacuum.

A powerful reflection from our convener Br. Mustafaa Carroll on power, systems, and the root causes of inequality.

From 2007:

Only 28 miles separate a mosque in Harlem from one on Long Island. Yet a vast gulf divides them.

“Whoever saves one life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity.”
(Qur’an 5:32)

This week, two Black mothers — one in Mesquite, Texas and one in Chicago — faced delayed and dismissive care while in labor. These incidents are painful reminders that protecting mothers is a sacred trust (amanah) in our faith and a moral responsibility upon our community.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to stand with those who are oppressed and to respond when harm occurs.
When Black mothers are ignored, neglected, or placed at risk, it is our duty to raise our voices.

As the MABL-DFW Social Justice Committee, we are committed to:

✔ Advocating for justice and accountability
✔ Supporting organizations that protect Black mothers
✔ Educating our community on maternal health and safety
✔ Standing firmly against racial bias and injustice in all its forms

We stand with Black mothers.
We stand for justice.
We stand for the sanctity of every life.

Alhamdullilah, our first Poverty Justice Summit was more than just an event, but the beginning of a movement, bi idhnillah.

Muslims and non-Muslims alike came together to address poverty in DFW head on, discuss solutions, and answer the call to serve our communities with justice and compassion in a united front.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered and believed in this vision. The work is just getting started, inshaAllah.

Watch, share and join us as we continue building toward real change, inshaAllah.

Join us for the first Muslim Poverty Justice Summit in DFW on Saturday, April 25!

The United States is at a pivotal moment in its history. With a fast growing U.S. Muslim community in both numbers and in societal and political influence, and a U.S. society facing tremedous challenges, the time is now for the Muslim community to come together with a unified vision to make a more powerful, collective impact on the society, especially in the area of poverty, which is only worsening and spreading. African-American and inner-citiy communities across the U.S have had long-standing systemic poverty, preventing many individuals from advancing in the society, denying them of their full human dignity and reaching their full potential. The question the arises, how can we positively contribute to the solution to uplifting and supporting our brother in sisters in faith and in humanity, something we are commanded to do as Muslims?

Come to MABL-DFW's Poverty Justice Summit for an informative, faith-rooted gathering that brings Muslims leaders, service providers and community partners together to address systemic & individual barriers that create and reinforce poverty and devise collaborative, practical solutions to reduce poverty in DFW, particularly in African-American and inner-city communities. We plan to leave with solutions and commitments as the first step to real change.

This summit is for non-profit leaders, faith-based organizations, students, activists and anyone passionate about real change.

Free and open to the public, time: 10 am - 3 pm, location: Dallas Central Library auditorium.

URGENT: Save Brother Sonny Burton during these 10 Nights of Mercy 🌙

As we seek the blessings of the last 10 nights, a 75-year-old Muslim brother, Charles "Sonny" Burton , is scheduled for ex*****on on March 12th .

The Facts:
📍 Sonny was NOT the shooter.
📍 The actual shooter was spared and given Life Without Parole.
📍 6 of the 8 living jurors who sentenced him now support clemency.
📍 The victim's daughter is also pleading for Sonny's life.

In this month of mercy, we must stand against this grave injustice. We are calling on all ICNA CSJ supporters to act immediately.

Our Muslim brother, Sonny Burton, is scheduled to be executed this Ramadan!
Sonny did not kill anyone.
Sonny did not intend to kill.
Sonny did not order the killing.

Yet he remains condemned while the triggerman was allowed to live. Speak up. Demand clemency.
