The U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program was established in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks and his wife. Major Bill Hendrick's wife made a doll and asked her husband to deliver it to an organization that would present it to a less fortunate child on Christmas Day. Major Hendricks and member of his Los Angeles Marine Reserve Unit collected and dist

ributed 5,000 toys to needy children of Los Angeles during Christmas Day of 1947. The seed has been planted and Toys for Tots was born. The following year the United States Marine Corps Reserve adopted the program and has been bringing a smile to kids across the nation since. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity is the fund raising, funding and support organization for the U. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation was created at the behest of the U. Marine Corps and provides support in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, who directs the U. The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during September, October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
