🚒 Did You Know?
Before stepping off the truck, a firefighter is already carrying nearly 58 pounds of gear worth approximately $18,000.
Structural firefighting gear is essential to keeping firefighters safe while working in extreme conditions. From intense heat and smoke to falling debris and other hazards, every piece of equipment serves a critical purpose on the fireground.
Because of the weight and bulk of their gear, firefighters regularly train while fully equipped to ensure their performance is never compromised during an emergency.
Each firefighter is issued a custom-fitted set of gear designed to provide the highest level of protection and effectiveness. Firefighters are also responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining their gear. Equipment is thoroughly cleaned after every fire and anytime contamination is suspected.
To keep firefighters prepared and protected, Republic Fire Department provides a second set of compliant gear for use while a primary set is being cleaned or repaired.
While firefighting gear is designed to withstand years of service, it has a maximum service life of 10 years, unless damage or contamination requires it to be replaced sooner.
🔥 Every pound. Every piece. Every call. Safety starts with the gear!
