I was blessed not to have to serve in Vietnam, since my birth date was about the 330th one, drawn out of the barrel that year. Oh, how I wanted (back then) to kill some Viet Cong. Thank God that wicked feeling never had a chance to come to fruition. Now looking back half a century later, what did 55,000 young men die for? What about those who are still of POW/MIA status, since Uncle Sam refuses to declassify those files? I invite everyone to read "War is a Racket," (1935), written by Smedley Butler, who, at that time was the most decorated Marine in the military. Pres. Eisenhower warned of the military-industrial complex, as war is a big money maker for that sector, which Butler details in his book. It still seems to be true, that most, if not all wars, are bankers' wars.
“We mistake the object of our government, if we hope or wish that it is to make us respectable abroad. Conquest or superiority among other powers is not or ought not ever to be the object of republican systems.” -- Charles Pinckney, spoken at Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, June 25, 1787
