LOOK UP.

See people the way Jesus sees them.

Jesus didn’t save us to sit on the sidelines. He calls us to notice people, move toward people, carry people, serve people, and point people toward Him.

Pumped for what FP is going to be doing this year! If your student has a club at their school it’s such a great way to plug in or help other students find Christ. If they don’t have one, let’s chat about that!

Praying everyone is having a great first week back to school! We hope to hear all about it tonight at FLAME starting @ 7P!

We’re focusing this year, again, on James 1:22. We feel we can do more with this and back to school is the perfect kick off for this series. We’re going to see guest speakers, service opportunities, and deep discipleship.

We’ve always said our focus is on depth not width, but our growth is a natural response to the faithful obedience of our students that have shared the gospel with friends, invited them to church, and encouraged one another through each step.

Just a few years ago we had 4 students. By the time service started, we were pushing 20 students in the building.

Pray with us, that we would never lose sight of the true purpose of this ministry. That our students would continue to go boldly, proclaiming the name of God in everything they do.

God is so good.

Last night’s lesson, following Sin, was on Justification.

The gospel begins with a truth most people spend their lives trying to avoid:
apart from Christ, you will never be enough.

No amount of morality, discipline, religion, or good works can satisfy the perfect standard of a holy God. Scripture is clear: believers are not justified by their own obedience, but by Christ’s.

That is the beauty of the cross.
Jesus fulfilled the standard humanity could never reach. He lived the sinless life people could not live, then willingly took the punishment sinners deserved, so that those who trust in Him could be clothed in His righteousness instead of their own failure.

This is the hope of the gospel:
believers do not stand before God saying, “Look at what I’ve done.”
They stand before God covered by what Christ has already done.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20

The good news is not that people can become enough for God.
The good news is that Jesus already was.

And as Christ lives in us, we move onto the next lesson: Sanctification.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
You don’t have to carry everything alone. God actually cares about what’s stressing you.

Another reminder that’s speaking as much to myself as it is our students. Thankful for a faithful God who is working even when I can’t see it.

This week’s lesson:

Sin. The greatest problem in the world, the cancer that’s at the heart of every problem. We were made to worship God, but instead, because of sin, we worship ourselves and sin blinds us to our own sinfulness and enslaves us, and hurts our relationships. Yet, there’s hope in Jesus Christ.

Sin is idolatrous and puts us on God‘s throne, sovereign over our own lives. And each time we reach out for more, we need more to achieve the pleasure we are craving. What temporarily satisfied yesterday won’t do so today. Yet, there’s hope in Jesus Christ.

“Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.” Romans 5:18

Sin is deceptive and is best confronted with help. Hebrews 3 tells us to “exhort one another daily” because we are so tricked that we need daily intervention and we need others’ eyes to show us what we fail to see. And by God’s grace we can be surrounded by faithful believers. Who point us to Christ. The only cure for this cancer, sin.

“ But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5

This is only a summary. And a beginning to a larger lesson. Next week we tackle Justification. Stay tuned.

Last night, our students took time to slow down and reflect. Not just on what happened this year, but on who they’re becoming.

We talked about growth.
About habits.
About struggles.
About where we’ve seen God move, and where we still need Him to change us.

Not just:
“What did I accomplish?”

But:
“Am I becoming more like Christ?”

As this school year comes to a close, maybe we all need that reminder. Reflection isn’t about guilt or perfection, it’s about honesty, growth, and letting God shape who we are.

So here are a few questions worth asking yourself tonight:

* What shaped me this year?
* What drew me closer to God?
* What pulled me away?
* Who do I want to be this time next year?
* What step is God asking me to take right now?

“Examine yourselves…” — 2 Corinthians 13:5

Growth rarely happens by accident. Sometimes it starts with simply being willing to pause and reflect.
