Through pandemic challenges and uncertainty, Providence health system remains steadfast in our mission of service beyond borders. This week Brittn Grey, Executive Director of Global & Domestic Engagement, and Carrie Schonwald, Manager of Education Initiatives, collaborated to write about our global partnership in Mangochi, Malawi. In partnership with Seed Global Health, Swedish Family Medicine Residency, and the University of Malawi College of Medicine, we continue to impact health outcomes and support the strengthening of health systems globally.

Contact Congress today: Urge the Trump administration to restore the U.S. refugee program.

The United States has historically resettled more refugees annually than all the other countries in the world combined, welcoming an average of 95,000 refugees per year. Last year, for the first time, the United States was no longer the leader in refugee admissions. When the U.S. closes its doors, other wealthy nations follow its example, and refugees remain stuck in camps and dangerous situations around the world.

Tell Congress: Ensure the Trump administration revitalizes the life-saving U.S. refugee program.

Refugees are our neighbors, colleagues, and fellow people of faith. In this time of crisis, over 300,000 of them have been working in front-line industries. Even in a pandemic, refugee admissions can be done safely and are a vital component of helping the world recover from the COVID-19 crisis.

“One impressive area of service was the delivery and instruction on use of wheelchairs and walkers to the population that were immobile where their only means of transportation was being carried by family members,” said Dr. Griffiths.

Learn about Dr. Chester Griffiths mission trip to Guatemala, where he and a large group of volunteers, helped provide surgical services to the less fortunate.
