The Arc of King County For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1936. We have the right to decide what is tangible, spam, or otherwise not acceptable.

People with developmental disabilities and their families need varying levels of services throughout their lives. Our services are developed to meet those needs by providing sufficient support and advocacy while also promoting autonomy and independence. In order to be successful, we rely on volunteers who donate time and talents, community partners who educate others about our services and the foundations and individual members who give financial gifts. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with funding from private contributions, foundations, and government contracts. We are a local chapter of The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Washington.

“Administrative errors in this line of work are not like errors in other fields,” the senators wrote in a new report. “There are life-and-death consequences for sick Americans who seek care only to find that their Medicaid coverage has been terminated.”

A year after launching an inquiry into companies, including Deloitte, that receive billions in taxpayer dollars to build complex computer systems determining Medicaid eligibility, senators are urging the federal government to impose stricter rules.

Inclusion matters. Never assume. Allow grace.

Invisible disabilities are conditions that aren't immediately noticeable but can still significantly impact daily life. They include things like chronic pain, mental health conditions, learning differences, and more.

About 10% of Americans live with an invisible disability, meaning it's more common to meet someone with an unseen disability than you might think!

For those living with invisible disabilities, it can be hard to get the accommodation and support they need. Because their challenges aren’t always visible, their disabilities are sometimes misunderstood or not taken seriously. But just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

This week is Invisible Disabilities Week. Take a minute to share this post to remind others that not all disabilities are visible and that inclusion matters.

The SeaTac session is Tuesday evening, Oct 20.

This event is to support the community's 10-year plan to build strong community supports for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. The steering group - made up of community members - wanted to ensure individual voices are heard, and not just agency voices, or just community organization voices.

We hope you to see you Tuesday, 6 to 8 pm

TIMELY! There is a focus group Tuesday 🙂 (smile emoji) in SeaTac to support the state's 10-year plan for improving services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. (A Path Forward).
👉 6 to 8 pm, The Arc of King County, 2650 S 200th Street, Suite 101, SeaTac, WA 98198. Parking next door at the Angle Lake Light Rail Station.
