The Neely-Soames Homestead Demonstration Garden showcases wonder and beauty at every turn. Currently, columbines are in bloom, lettuce is thriving in the beds, wasps are present in the sage bush, and the water fountain in the Fairy Garden is operational, catering to the drinking needs of pollinators.

Escargot is on the menu for our animal garden friends! 🐌 Do animals keep the snails and slugs in check in your garden?

Ducks, geese, frogs, snakes and ground beetles all help keep slug populations in check. In the garden, these animals are considered natural biocontrols — predators that feed on slugs and snails as part of the ecosystem.

That’s one reason gardeners are often encouraged to think beyond simply killing slugs and instead consider how to create gardens that support biodiversity and balance. The more healthy predators you have in your garden ecosystem, the fewer slugs you may find eating your plants.

Nature’s pest control team is already on the job.
