Hello Roots!

Pastor Paul is in Michigan for his annual ice fishing retreat. For anyone who wishes to gather at Luther's Table at 5pm, you are still welcome! We have returned to our podcast format on the Luther's Table stage as another experiment with a hybrid version of service. All are welcome to join us online at our page at 5pm this evening as usual.

Tonight’s scripture is from John 2:1-11, the wedding at Cana. Some questions to get you started:

Have you ever been to a party when there was not enough food or drink? What was your reaction? Have you ever hosted when that happened?

How important is it to you that people think of you as a good host? A good parent? Generous? Or, welcomed, valued, worthy?

What do you think would have happened at the wedding had not Jesus performed this miracle?

God bless your Sabbath!

Hello Roots!

As usual, we will have our worship online at 5pm on our page. But if you would like to join us in person at Luther's Table, this is a reminder that our physical gathering is available for the season of Advent and Christmas. You are more than welcome to join us in either capacity and we are so glad to have our community together via multiple means at this time.

TableTalk Questions
- What does Christmas mean to you?
- Are there any important take-aways for us living a life of faith today?

If you are gathering with us online, feel free to post your response in the chat during our TableTalk segment of worship.

See you tonight Roots!

Paul

Hello Roots!

Merry Christmas everyone! Our community will be celebrating Christmas Eve at 7pm at Lakeridge Lutheran Church (7465 S 112th St, Seattle, WA 98178) this Friday. As per Roots custom, we will be singing Holden Evening Vespers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HMgj7UVAMg&t=6s), feel free to listen beforehand and familiarize yourself with the liturgy.

Also, we will not have church at Luther's Table this Sunday - spend the Christmas season day in light and love with those around you 🙂

See you Friday!

Paul

Hello Roots,

Fortress, a loving and faithful member of the Roots and Luther's Table community, has passed into God's intimate care in the life to come. As we grieve with Donna, his life partner, we also recognize how much of a financial burden funeral expenses can be for those left behind. Please open your hearts with a spirit of generosity for Donna in helping her cover these expenses in this difficult time. You can contribute at our GoFundMe page:

Greetings Roots!

Want to join us in making a permanent and lasting difference in the Luther's Table neighborhood?

Roots of the Table is starting an endowed scholarship for Renton High School students in the Community in Schools program. These are students that face many additional barriers to success than the average student, whether because of immigrant or refugee status, broken family hardship, or poverty. These students frequently do not have access to the scholarships and internship programs afforded to top academic students because they lack out-of-school support systems which oftentimes causes their grades to suffer. We want to give these students an opportunity to complete an internship at Luther's Table where they will learn job and life skills and, upon completion of our program, be awarded a scholarship to send them off to the next stage of their life with an added boost of resources and confidence. This can change not only the life of an underprivileged student, but also raise up an opportunity within a new generation of their family unit. The internship will be launching at Luther's Table this fall - look forward to updates and stories in the coming academic year!

All donations up to $5000 will be matched and added to our Grace Grant seed money ($10,000). Thanks for your support of this amazing ministry!

Dear Beloved Roots Community,

It brings me great pain to announce the death of Damen Dumas who died peacefully in his sleep last week. He truly represented and embodied our mission at Luther’s Table to “Come As You Are,” never being afraid to bring his whole quirky self to the table. He had a deep care for community and always was seeking to spread laughter and joy to those around him. Damen, we at Luther’s Table salute you, thank you for your service to our country, and as John Long said, “He’s God’s problem now.” I believe Jesus himself is currently rolling his eyes at one of Damen’s “guy-without-arms-and-legs” jokes. Damen will truly be missed by his family at Roots of the Table and Luther’s Table and nothing will ever be able to replace the unique and eccentric spirit he brought to our community. But I can definitely see him patrolling up and down the pearly gates of heaven, smoking a cigarette, not letting Peter get any work done, and making sure his new extended family in heaven is always safe and together. In the Spirit of Luther’s Table, I invite you all to “raise a glass” to the life of Damen Dumas.

Cheers.

Pastor Paul
