While Mel Hamre '54 visited the majority of our nation’s land-grant universities throughout his life, WSU was always his favorite. When asked why, he replied, “Because I’m a Coug.” 🐾

Were it not for a and the part-time student job he had at the audio-visual center in Holland Library, Mel would not have been able to attend what was then Washington State College in 1950.

He never forgot that these opportunities were what made it possible for him to obtain a college education. Wanting to give others that same chance, Mel generously supported many areas of WSU over his 40 years of giving, ultimately making the WSU Foundation a beneficiary of his estate plans.

While Mel passed away during the summer of 2025 at age 92, he will continue to have a lasting impact through his planned gifts to:

💌 Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU

💌 Washington State University Libraries Pullman

💌 WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences

💌 WSU College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences
