Pierce County has been an active theater for child exploitation enforcement, and the documented activity here goes well beyond isolated incidents. In June 2026, the Washington State Patrol's Missing and Exploited Children Task Force ran an undercover operation directly in Pierce County — posing online as a 13-year-old girl to identify and arrest a registered s*x offender who solicited a child for pay. That operation didn't happen in a vacuum. At the start of 2025, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office rejoined the Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and by November 2025, that unit had made 21 arrests on charges that included human trafficking in the first degree, promoting commercial s*xual abuse of a minor, and multiple counts of child r**e. Pierce County also operates through the FBI's South Sound Child Exploitation Task Force, a standing multi-agency partnership targeting trafficking and gang-linked exploitation throughout the region. The level of enforcement activity here reflects the documented level of threat — and Sha'Niece disappeared from the center of it.
