Adopt-A-Road is an event where we aim to transform and tidy up roadways along SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve into a healthier and cleaner environment. Help us keep our streets pollution-free on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. All cleaning equipment will be provided, so just bring yourself and a positive energy! Volunteers should be over the age of 18. Join us afterwards for pizza and drinks, which will be provided as a thank you for your hard work.

SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve invites you to a screening of The Extraordinary Caterpillar, a film inviting viewers to the hidden world of nature's tiniest superheroes and the vital role they play in sustaining healthy ecosystems. In addition to the film, we will present a brief presentation on SHADOW Lake, its history, and its heroic contributions to the local ecosystem! Family friendly games and time for questions will also be available.

Happy Earth Day from SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve 🌎💚!!

Today we’re celebrating not just the land, but the community that makes SHADOW what it is. Over the years, we’ve heard so many stories from our community about this place. Volunteers who helped restore the original parcel of land have come back to see how much it’s grown, and people who first visited as kids on field trips are now bringing their own families.

In just the past year, more than 250 volunteers have shown up to support our stewardship projects. We’ve been fortunate enough to partner with universities here in Washington and across the country, and collaborated with national organizations like the Audubon Society.

We’re especially grateful to The Mountaineers, who consistently show up to volunteer and make a huge impact on our restoration work, and to Woodland Park Zoo for helping support our research programs! We’ve also been feeling a lot of love from the community lately, through visits, donations, and even a feature in The Seattle Times that helped us connect with naturalists across the region.
