The Logan Nonfiction Program is currently on hiatus.

Since the inception of the program, we have proudly supported 266 fellows — journalists, documentary filmmakers, podcasters and multimedia creators — from more than 40 countries and been integral in the creation of 70 books and documentary films to date.

At this time, we have made the difficult decision to take a pause as we reimagine what the Logan Nonfiction Program might look like in the future and reassess the financial sustainability of the high-quality experience we have offered since 2015.

We look forward to connecting with like-minded organizations and supporters in the months ahead and are optimistic about a new future for the program. Thank you so much for your interest and support over the years.

We’re about halfway through our Summer 2022 class of fellows. While they continue to join in on virtual sessions over the next few weeks and we eagerly await their return to campus in September, here are some of our favorite photos from their stay in July.

We are very happy to announce our Summer 2022 class of fellows — who are now in their first week on campus. Fellows include Nikhil Eapen, an Indian journalist and migrant-worker-rights researcher at work on a book about the biodiversity crisis in South Asia; Julie Wyman, a filmmaker and UC Davis associate professor working on a documentary about newly released drugs being used to make little people taller; Peter Klein, a filmmaker and founder of the Global Reporting Center, who will be working on a feature documentary about global commerce and the corruption that accompanies it; and Molly O’Toole, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who is completing a book about the new migrant underground. Can’t wait to see how their projects develop over the next 10 weeks.

We can’t explain how incredible it was to finally have our first class of fellows back on our campus after two full years of virtual programming. And, they didn’t skip a beat kayaking, hiking and inspiring and motivating one another with their projects. Can’t wait to meet our next class.

We are beaming with pride as we announce that two of our alumni won Pulitzer Prizes and one was nominated!

•Andrea Elliott (‘19) was awarded the General Nonfiction Pulitzer for her book, “Invisible Child: Poverty, Survival & Hope in an American City.” The book examines poverty, homelessness and the legacy of slavery in institutions of America, told through the deeply reported narrative account of one young woman.

•Azmat Khan (‘17) was honored with a Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting, as part of a team of journalists whose work exposed the extensive civilian toll of U.S.-led air strikes in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

•Lee Hawkins (‘18) was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting within the journalism section of the awards. As part of a staff team at , Lee worked on a series of stories that reconstructed the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and its continued impact on Oklahoma and the nation at large.

Congratulations to all of you ☺️.

We’re deep in the virtual component of the fellowship now, but we do miss seeing our fellows on campus. Here they are scattered about — we can’t wait to have them back in June.

It was such a pleasure to have data journalist Lam Thuy Vo speak with our fellows on investigating social inequalities and how to translate large-scale data into powerful personal stories. Check out her incredible work at / lamivo.com.

We are so thrilled to announce our spring class of 2022 fellows—our first class to return in person in more than two years. The journalists and filmmakers selected for this class were chosen from a record number of applications and represent a diverse array of nonfiction voices from around the world. Fellows include Justine van der Leun, an independent journalist and host of the lauded “Believe Her" podcast, who is reporting on women and mass incarceration in America; Pedro de Filippis, an award-winning filmmaker who is completing his first feature-length documentary about dam ruptures in highly populated areas of Brazil; and Viv Li, a Chinese filmmaker who explores the polarization of cultures and political systems through the lens of s*x and gender in her newest doc.

A quick reminder that Upstate New York is very much still in winter. But we’re glad Mike De Socio (‘21) braved the snow for a beautiful hike in the Huyck Preserve. Excited to welcome our first class of fellows back on campus next month!

It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to a class! Fall 2021 Session 1 was an absolute pleasure to host and we’re very excited to have them join our alumni community. And, of course, we cannot wait to see where their projects go. Onto the start of Session 2! 🗞📚🎥🎧
