It's that time of year again! We are trying to make sure that 27 kiddos have a great Christmas! Without the support of our wonderful community, most of these kids will not have anything under their trees on Christmas. If you can't purchase anything, a share can do wonders to help get the word out! Attached is our Amazon wish list, items purchased will be sent directly to the shelter so we can get them distributed before Christmas. Any questions please reach out to Reba or Kelsey at 219-866-8281.

🎃 October 31: The Last Day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

As we celebrate Halloween tonight, let’s also take a moment to remember that for many, “scary” isn’t just about costumes or haunted houses — it’s about living in fear at home. 💔

Domestic Violence Awareness Month may be ending, but support and advocacy continue all year long. Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and hope.

Here’s how you can stay involved:
1️⃣ Learn the signs of abuse — emotional, physical, financial, and psychological.
2️⃣ Believe survivors when they share their stories.
3️⃣ Share resources with your friends, family, and community.
4️⃣ Take action — volunteer, donate, or advocate for change.

💜 Want to make a difference for survivors of domestic violence and their children?
Here are 7 meaningful ways to support local crisis services in your community 👇

1️⃣ Stay informed. Keep up with current statistics and domestic violence information in your state and community.
2️⃣ Believe survivors. Your belief can be the first step toward their healing.
3️⃣ Listen with care. Take time to truly hear those who may be struggling.
4️⃣ Share resources. Connect others with local shelters, hotlines, and support programs.
5️⃣ Practice empathy. Be open-minded, compassionate, and nonjudgmental.
6️⃣ Speak out. Take a stand against all forms of violence—survivors need to know our community does not stay silent.
7️⃣ Support your local crisis center. Call to ask what’s needed—supplies, funds, or volunteer help to make all the difference!

Together, we can create safer, more supportive communities. 💪💜

💔 Myth vs. Fact: Domestic Violence Awareness

Myth: Domestic violence only happens in poor or uneducated families.
Fact: Domestic violence affects people of all backgrounds — regardless of income, education, race, gender, or religion.

Myth: If the abuse were really bad, the victim would just leave.
Fact: Leaving is often the most dangerous time for a survivor. Barriers like fear, finances, children, and emotional manipulation can make leaving extremely difficult.

Myth: Domestic violence is only physical.
Fact: Abuse can be emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, or digital — all forms are serious and harmful.

Myth: Alcohol or drugs cause domestic violence.
Fact: Substance use can worsen violence, but abuse is always a choice — rooted in power and control, not intoxication.

Experiencing and surviving abuse can have such a profound impact on a person’s mind, body, and soul. It’s never selfish to take time for yourself!

Remember, you are worthy of love.

In 1978 women marched in Washington, D.C., wearing purple — a color of courage, survival and the fight to end violence. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we honor their legacy, stand with survivors, and let hope grow stronger together. 💜🕯️🕊️

What Is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviors used by one person to gain or maintain power and control over another in an intimate or family relationship. It’s not just physical—it can also be emotional, sexual, financial, or psychological abuse.

What It Looks Like:

💬 Emotional abuse: Constant criticism, manipulation, or threats.

💸 Financial abuse: Controlling access to money or preventing employment.

📱 Digital abuse: Monitoring messages or using technology to intimidate.

💔 Physical abuse: Hitting, pushing, or other forms of physical harm.

🧠 Psychological abuse: Gaslighting, isolation, or making someone doubt their reality.

Domestic violence often hides behind closed doors, but its impact reaches every part of a survivor’s life. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and free from control. 💜
