Jack Fallon is a graduate of Villanova and holds a Master's in Ed Psych from St. Rose. He has appeared in theatres from the Palace in Albany to the Fox in Detroit to the Merriam in Philly. He has made appearances in several productions of the Saratoga Shakespeare Co. During the 1970s he was one of the pioneers of Off Off Broadway appearing over 35 productions at 6 different theatres. And was one of the founding members of the WPA Theatre. His robust energetic performances prompted the Village Voice to dub him "the jock set's contribution to Off Off Broadway." He has had guest starring roles on Jake and the Fatman and The Guiding Light.

What role are you playing? Can you tell us about it?
JF: I am playing Tevye. He is a very complex character whose relationship with God dominates his life.

How long have you been acting?
JF: I have been acting ever since I can remember.

What has your favorite/most memorable experience been?
One of my most memorable theatrical experience was playing the Ghost of Christmas Present opposite John Astin in “Christmas Carol” at the Palace Theatre.

What made you want to do this play?
JF: I have always wanted to play the role of Tevye.

Do you have a favorite line from the show?
JF: My favorite line in the play is when Tevye responds to Motl’s statement “Everything will be fine.” with, “It couldn’t be worse.”

Why should people come out to see this show?
JF: People should see this show because of the cultural and historical implications. And Director Andrei Kouznetsov has done a fantastic job of pulling this show together.

Jonathan Tarpy became interested in acting during the Covid19 pandemic while living in NYC. At the time one of the only places still open during the lock-downs was a little theater off broadway where actress Catherine Russel taught a weekly acting class. Jonathan joined the class to improve his public speaking abilities and soon became intrigued by the work of an actor. Through one of the other students in the class, Jonathan was cast in a short film that has been screened at more than a dozen film festivals, winning several prizes, including the Grand Prix at a festival in France last year.

What role are you playing? Can you tell us about it?
J.T.I am playing Motl, an extremely poor, sorry excuse for a tailor in the small fictional town of Anatevka. Motl is in love with Tevye's oldest daughter, Tzeitl who also loves him. Motl knows his chances of marrying Tzeitl are slim to none unless he can get up the courage to break with tradition and convince Tevye to give his consent to marry his daughter. J.J.T

What has your favorite/most memorable experience been?
J.T. It has been pleasure working with the large cast for this show whose age's range from 8 to 80 years old. My favorite part has been talking to the director Andrei Kuoznetsov about the back-stories and inner lives of the characters.

What made you want to do this play?
J.T.I go to a weekly acting class at the Blue Horse Repertoire in Troy, along with Jack Fallon who plays the staring role in the play as Reb Tevye. One day Jack brought on stage one of his scenes from the play to rehearse during the class and during the performance I felt that Tevye was in the room, sitting in the chair that Jack had been sitting in but a moment earlier. So when Jack asked if I wanted to try out for a part in the play I was immediately interested.

How has your experience been in this project so far?
J.T. The process has been hugely educational for a newbie like me. I’ve gotten an inside view in on all the moving parts required to put a play up onto the stage, it really takes a whole village, one the size of Anatevka itself!

Do you have a favorite line from the show?
J.T. I have several favorite lines!
Constable: "You are a funny man, Tevye, even though you are a Jew!"
Tevye: "Someone's got to be a jew, your honor, better me than you!"
Constable: "Haha, right you are, Tevye"
Tevye: "Oh Lord, you did not make woman from a rib, but from tears”
Yentl: “Times are new but the laws are old, fish and birds don’t build nests together”

Why should people come out to see this show?
J.T.In light of the events happening in the world these past several years, this story is as relevant today as it was on the day it was written. The clothing has changed, but mankind’s proclivity toward hate - and his ability to laugh his way out of dire tragedy - has not.

Jackie Amilivia is happy to be working with the New Russia Cultural Center for the first time. She is a board member with Classic Theater Guild where she has served in many roles, including most recently, A Shayna Maidel and Picasso at the Lapin Agile.

She has worked with Foothills Family Productions, Colonial Little Theater, Foothills Arts Council, Galway Players, Schenectady Civic Players, and is currently stage managing Albany Civic Players production of Driving Miss Daisy.

As we prepare for our upcoming production of Once Upon a Time in Anatevka we want our future audience to know the cast. Jackie Amilivia is playing Golda, Tevye’s wife.

What role are you playing? Can you tell us about it?

I have the pleasure of playing Golda. She is Tzeitl, Godle, and Hava's mother and Tevye's wife. As most women, she is a healer, a fixer, and a force to be reckoned with. She holds her family together with strength and love. Beneath her exterior bravado, her heart breaks as each one of her daughters ends up leaving the family nucleus and taking diverse roads. She is the heart of the show.

How long have you been acting?

I performed many years ago in high school. Then life happened. In 2012, my daughter began performing and I became her stage left person as she progressed and moved into stage managing. The acting bug stirred in me again and I auditioned for a play, Almost, Maine, with Foothills Arts Council. I was cast in the very small role of Villian. The rest, as they say, is history.

What has your favorite/most memorable experience been?

My most memorable experience was acting in a short play titled Analyzing Moses. I played a therapist in the desert who meets Moses and the Burning Bush in biblical times. At the end of the play, the audience finds out that my character is really God in disguise. How often can a simple human get to play God? Definitely a favorite performance.

What made you want to do this play?

I decided to perform in this play because a friend and fellow actor, Bill Wilday, asked me to join the group. Also, being a Fiddler on the Roof fan and being cast as such a strong female character, how could I refuse?

How has your experience been in this project so far?

My experience so far has been enlightening. Andrei Kouznetsov, the Director, is caring, gives wonderful direction filled with positive reinforcement, and is a pleasure to work with. He treats everyone with respect and understands everyone is at different stages in their acting careers as well as in their personal lives. We joke around a lot. I love the comraderie we all share. The cast is a family and Andrei treats us as family.

Come join us for a powerful theatrical production that aims to raise awareness about the persistent issue of antisemitism. “Once Upon a Time in Anatevka” is adapted from a Yiddish story familiar to “Fiddler on the Roof” fans. Set in Central Ukraine in 1905, it explores the hardships of those living in the Jewish pale of settlement, a territory where the Jewish population of the Russian empire was restricted. It follows Tevye, his wife Golda and their three daughters, who are to marry. Tevye leans on his faith in God amidst his struggles and maintains his faith in others, meeting adversity with dignity and a smile.
Experience the enchanting tale of Anatevka like never before, brought to life by talented actors. Don't miss out on this unforgettable tragicomedy!

Thursday’s opening, April 11 2024, at the Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady will mark the American premiere, and it comes at an apt time.
