7.2 versus 18.5. That’s the gap in gun death rates between states with the strongest and weakest gun safety laws — a difference of 2.5 times.

This isn’t about geography. It’s about policy. And the data from CDC and Everytown’s 2024 analysis is consistent: states that invest in evidence-based prevention approaches have significantly lower gun death rates.

If every state matched the rate of the strongest-law states, an estimated 298,000 lives could be saved over the next decade.

According to the CDC’s most current national data, 30% of U.S. women have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. 23% have experienced physical violence or stalking. 19% have experienced sexual violence.

These numbers represent people — not percentages. Understanding the full scope of IPV is the first step toward building the systems that actually address it.

In 2024, 44,447 people lost their lives to gun violence in the United States — approximately 122 people every single day.

Gun violence remains the leading cause of death for American children ages 1 to 17. For the fifth consecutive year.

More than 1,000 lawsuits are now consolidated in federal court examining whether social media platform design features—such as infinite scroll, autoplay, and algorithmic feeds—contribute to youth mental health harms.

As these cases move forward, they may shape future discussions around platform accountability, digital wellbeing, and youth online safety.

A recent national survey shows declines in sworn staffing alongside significant increases in retirements and resignations.

When departments operate with fewer officers, the impact extends beyond staffing—it affects workload, recovery time, and long-term wellness. Staffing levels are not only an operational issue, but a key driver of officer wellbeing.

Thank you to the Beaufort Police Department, Beaufort, SC for being an example of a department who truly protects and serves the community.

They make it a point to create neighborhoods where kids can play freely, they get medication to their elderly, their community does not fear them but sees them as individuals who have their best interest at heart.

The Cummings Foundation of Behavioral Health is honored to serve those who serve our community with passion and empathy.

Enjoy your new gym, on us! 🤩🥳

Tactical Longevity Training 🚔

This week, Beaufort PD officers participated in Tactical Longevity Training provided by the Cummings Foundation for Behavioral Health.

The course, led by Dr. Jennifer Prohaska, founder of Tactical Longevity and a licensed clinical psychologist, and Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a 15-year law enforcement veteran, focused on building resilience, enhancing decision-making under stress, and strengthening mental readiness in high-pressure environments.

Dr. Prohaska brings specialized expertise in neuro-rehabilitation psychology, trauma, and critical incident response, while Sgt. DiMartino combines his law enforcement experience with real-world lessons in resiliency.

This training reinforces our ongoing commitment to officer wellness, professional development, and serving our community with focus and strength. 💙

Ever hear someone say, “I don’t fight, I just walk away,” but then see them arguing with strangers online? That’s your fight response your body’s built-in alarm system, not a personality flaw.

When your brain senses danger (physical or emotional), it releases adrenaline like a Red Bull overdose, preparing you to fight or flee.

While this response is protective, prolonged activation can lead to chronic stress, aggression, or fear.

💡According to the National Institute of Mental Health, untreated stress and trauma can increase emotional reactivity by 40%, making it harder to regulate emotions. Mental illness alone doesn’t predict violence, but ignoring mental health can lead to explosive reactions.

So, ask yourself: are you fighting to survive, or fighting to heal? 💥Actionable Tip: Practice grounding techniques like deep breathing or mindfulness to calm your fight response. Seek support if stress feels overwhelming.

“Join the movement!” 🫵🏼🙏🏽
