Some of the best parts of a cat show happen beyond the ring.

At our Welcome Party, we have a great Italian dinner planned, a bar with the first $600 in drinks already sponsored, and. . .

Cats Against Humanity — Catology Edition.

Seasoned exhibitors get to laugh at all the ridiculous things we’ve lived through, and newer exhibitors get a little preview of what awaits them if they hang around long enough.

And somewhere along the way, people who may have only nodded hello to each other across a show hall get a chance to actually sit down, laugh together, and know each other a little better.

That is exactly the kind of evening we want our Welcome Party to be.

We’re looking for people who would like to sponsor a Cats Against Humanity deck for the party so we can have several games going around the room.

Your sponsorship will last indefinitely - until we retire the Cats Against Humanity deck with your logo on it. And when we do, it will go to you.

One less thing to figure out on Education Day: we’ll bring the food to you. 😊

Breakfast and lunch will be available by advance purchase only and delivered directly to the Casino Ballroom, so you won’t need to leave the education area to find something to eat.

Breakfast • 8:15–8:45 AM
Lunch • 12:00–12:30 PM

And if you’re still finishing breakfast when our first seminar begins, that’s okay—just eat discreetly while you listen. We want the morning to feel easy, not rushed.

Breakfast and lunch choices are shown in the graphic, and coffee, iced tea, and water will be complimentary for Breeder Education attendees throughout the day.

Meals must be ordered in advance.

Sometimes the color you expect is exactly what you get.

And sometimes genetics has other plans. 😄

At Catology’s Breeder Education Day, Lorraine Shelton will present Colorful Cats, helping breeders better understand the genetics behind coat color and pattern—including dilution, white spotting, red and cream, pointed cats, and more.

The goal isn’t just to memorize genes. It’s to better understand why certain colors and patterns appear, how they are inherited, and what may be possible in future litters.

Because predicting color takes a little more than wishful thinking.

Apparently, putting cats in charge of a card game was exactly as questionable an idea as it sounds. 😹

And yet… Cats Against Humanity is happening.

A huge thank-you to everyone who has already helped us build the deck by contributing card ideas. Some of them are clever. Some are ridiculous. Some probably should never have been written down. Which means we are doing this correctly.

Now we’re looking for a few people or businesses who want to help us turn those ideas into an actual deck.

Rumor has it, you can find some pretty good airline deals right now. . . 👀

So we took a look.

We’re currently seeing examples around $209 round trip from Los Angeles, about $242 from Phoenix, fares around $250 from Denver, and roughly $227 from Seattle. Airfare changes constantly, of course, but those are pretty encouraging numbers for a fly-in cat show.

And once you get to Reno, you really don’t need a rental car. The airport shuttle takes you directly to The Row, including Circus Circus, so once you arrive, your hotel, Education Day, Welcome Party, restaurants, and the show are all right there.

Come early and stay late. At these hotel prices, you can afford to turn a cat show into a long weekend getaway with your cat besties.

And you don’t have to pay for everything at once.

Break the payments apart. Book your airfare now if you see a fare you like. Reserve your hotel. Add Education Day and meals separately. Entries don’t open until November.

Breeding decisions are rarely as simple as “linebreed” or “outcross.”

Sometimes the goal is to preserve strengths and consistency within a line. Other times, bringing in greater genetic diversity is the better choice. The important part is understanding why you are making the decision—and what it may mean for the generations that follow.

At Catology’s Breeder Education Day, Jon Paterson will present Line Breeding, Outcrossing, and Genetic Health, exploring how pedigrees, genetic diversity, health history, and long-term breeding goals can help breeders make more intentional choices.

Because thoughtful breeding isn’t just about the next litter. It’s about what we are building for the future.

Breeders know there’s a lot more behind a planned pairing than, “They’re both beautiful cats.” 😄

Pedigrees, health history, structure, temperament, inherited traits, strengths, risks—and the question of what each decision may mean several generations from now.

At Catology’s Breeder Education Day, Adriana Kajon, PhD will present Basic Concepts in Genetics: From DNA to Coloration, Coat, Skeletal, and Behavioral Characteristics of Domestic Cats.

This two-hour seminar will explore the genetic foundations behind the traits we see in our cats and give breeders a stronger framework for understanding inheritance and making thoughtful breeding decisions.

Because good breeding starts long before a kitten is born.

Somewhere along the way, “having cats” turned into knowing how to weigh a newborn, give fluids, tube feed, monitor temperatures, and recognize when a kitten needs more support.

For breeders, those practical skills can matter enormously.

At Catology’s Breeder Education Day, Nikki Crandall, DVM will present Practical Veterinary Skills Breeders Can Safely Use at Home—a hands-on look at supportive care techniques breeders can use with their cats and kittens, including tube feeding and administering subcutaneous fluids.

Because sometimes the breeder starter pack needs a little more than a food bowl and a feather toy. 😄
