***ATTENTION ALL DENTAL HYGIENISTS!*** AND PATIENTS in Nevada and the Nation
At 10pm last night the dental board snuck in five Bill Draft Requests (BDRs) that will be included in the public Dental Board meeting NEXT WEDNESDAY 4/29! We need to submit letters of opposition and log in to the board meeting to testify AGAINST these proposals that affect the profession of dental hygiene - Specifically Concept A and Concept E. Please DO NOT ignore this! We need all the support that we can get!
The BDRs are as follows:
BDR Concept A- Permitting dental assistants to perform supragingival scaling upon the completion of training and demonstrating competency to provide workforce support to dental teams and to alleviate some of the pain of the dental hygienist shortage in Nevada.
BDR Concept B- Changes regarding anesthesia and sedation permitting; specifically, allowing only a two-permit structure instead of requiring a three-permit structure.
BDR Concept C- Changing the biennial license renewal deadline from the same date for every licensee (currently June 30 every other year) to the individual licensee’s date of birth every other year.
BDR Concept D- Changing the official name of the Board of Dental Examiners of Nevada to the Nevada State Board of Dental Medicine to conform with the reality of what the Board does and eliminate references to the Board conducting or scoring examinations.
BDR Concept E- Removing a requirement from the statute regulating dental therapist licensure that does not exist, this creating a legal impossibility for anyone to be licensed as a dental therapist.

Thoughts and gratitude to Pam Straley for her part in the inception and creation of this wonderful initiative! Kudos to TMCC Dental Hygiene Program for your terrific care!

As part of the Incline Village Oral Health Improvement for Children initiative, IVCH Foundation used grant funding to provide free dental care to local students this spring. With support from Truckee Meadows Community College, over 140 students received screenings, fluoride treatments, and sealants- right at school.

We're proud to help bring healthy smiles to the kids in our community!

Call it what you will, an appointment with a Dental Hygienist is a plethora of valuable services!

Call it what you will, an appointment with a Dental Hygienist is a plethora of valuable services!

Call it a “cleaning,” a “level-1 prophy,” or a “quick polish”—but if that’s all you think a preventative hygiene visit is, you’re missing the point.

A registered dental hygienist does more than scrape teeth.

They assess, educate, prevent, and protect.

And the healthiest patients?

They’re the ones who need prevention the most.

Because oral health isn’t maintained by chance. . . it’s maintained by us.
