Advocates for Rural Community Health

Advocates for Rural Community Health Advocates for Rural Community Health (ARCH) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization developing the rural health sector worldwide. ARCH was born.

This idea came about while studying abroad in Uganda and conducting research for a master's thesis. While interning with the World Health Organization (WHO), Leissan spent one week visiting health centers. In visiting the health centers, there was a common theme of lack of adequate number of employees as well as professional development and skills training. ARCH will bring medical school students

to not only to help with the case load for a short period of time, but also to work with the health center employees on professional development, skills training, as well as come up with innovative ways to address the shortcomings prevalent in rural health care. The goal is not only to address on short-term problems, but also to build on sustainability to ensure that the same practices can be continued once the students leave and also builds a partnership in addressing common problems in innovative ways.
