June is PTSD Awareness Month.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone. It may develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, and symptoms can include intrusive memories, nightmares, anxiety, hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, and avoidance of reminders of the trauma.
PTSD is treatable with the right support, evidence-based therapies, and access to care, people can recover, manage symptoms, and build meaningful lives beyond trauma.
This message is especially important in Nevada, where access to mental health care remains a significant challenge. Mental health provider shortages, long wait times, and barriers to treatment can make it difficult for individuals living with PTSD to get the help they need. At the same time, PTSD affects thousands of Nevadans, including veterans, first responders, survivors of violence, and others who have experienced trauma.
At NAMI Nevada, we believe that no one should have to navigate trauma alone. PTSD is not a personal failing, and seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of courage and an important step toward healing.
This PTSD Awareness Month, we encourage our community to do more than raise awareness. Let's challenge the stigma that keeps people silent. Let's advocate for stronger mental health systems and better access to care.
Education is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce stigma and increase understanding. Learn more about PTSD, its symptoms, treatment options, and recovery resources at:

Together, we can build a Nevada where mental health care is accessible, trauma is understood, and no one has to face PTSD alone.
