Today we joined Altrusa of Reno/Sparks serving senior community members at their residence. Altrusa brought essential household items, and we served an amazing lunch from Loco Ono ().

It’s always a great day when you get to put a smile on someone’s face. Lots of smiles today!

In January, 100 local runners participated in Burrito League, a grassroots run challenge that happened in over 130 cities worldwide.

Reno runners started out raising funds for the grand prize (a year’s worth of burritos from Speedy Burritos on Wells Avenue) and for Reno Gastro Project.

Thanks to LeVangie Law Group out of Rancho Cordova, California, who generously purchased the burritos for the winner, all donations to the burrito fund will be used to purchase burritos from local restaurants to provide to community members facing food insecurity.

The burrito fund will be open through Monday, 2/16. If you’d like to contribute, text ‘burrito’ to 53-555.

On this final day of , we want to give a shout-out to for the amazing peach cobbler they made and we served to low income seniors last weekend. 💜🖤

A little more about them (from their website): “Owners Davery and Dominique Spears aim to evoke nostalgia with delectable homemade treats reminiscent of family recipes. From Grandma’s Apple Pie to Auntie’s Peach Cobbler, our creations are brimming with heart.” Their specialties include cheesecake which we definitely plan to try next!

Another wonderful event with Altrusa of Reno/Sparks and Black Wall Street Reno. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to provide a delicious hot meal from M&MS Southern Cafe and dessert from The Recipe Box Inc.

We had a great time this weekend serving seniors a hot meal during an and event. We’d ordered food from and the portions were so incredible, we had a substantial amount of leftovers. These meals were bought with funds provided our supporters so we wanted to be sure all of the food was served to community members facing food insecurity.

So, we followed the lead of the amazing and made 32 pulled pork burritos (and 6 sandwiches) and headed downtown to hand them out. In the short time it took to find people receptive of a meal, we met some amazing people who we exchanged well wishes with. It was such a good reminder that there are real people with vibrant personalities who are sitting on the side of the street, so easily dismissed by those of us constantly on the go between here and there.

Today we delivered lunch for the youth served by Eddy House. We have now provided 1,344 meals to them thanks to all of you who have contributed to Reno Gastro Project. Purchase of these meals has supported over 30 local businesses!

Update: We were asked if we could switch to New Year’s Day and are still looking for a restaurant that we could purchase lunch from.

We are making plans to provide Christmas Dinner to 60 youth at Eddy House on Monday. Please comment below any restaurants you know of that might be open Christmas Day. A meal that could be picked up the day before and reheated could possibly work.

We are thrilled that Altrusa of Reno/Sparks has invited us to be a part of their next community outreach event. Important hygiene and household items will be provided to low income seniors, and we are hoping to be there to serve a hot meal for 60 purchased at full price from a locally owned restaurant. This weekend, we had an opportunity to stop by Northern Nevada HOPES Hope Springs with some food to share with their residents and had the pleasure of receiving a tour of this amazing facility. As the first tiny home, bridge housing project in Northern Nevada, Hope Springs is helping our unhoused community members find shelter. We enjoyed meeting a couple of their staff and residents and are looking forward to organizing future events with them!

We are lining out big goals for 2023 to support more local restaurants and continue to provide meals to community members facing food insecurity. We rely 100% on our supporters who have chosen to Buy A Meal (or multiple meals 😋). Your purchase of even one meal makes a huge difference! Together, we can support local and stop hunger.

Another great outreach event today serving over 80 low income senior community members. The Hotel/Motel Project, organized by Altrusa of Reno/Sparks, works with residential entities to schedule a day where household items, hygiene supplies, nonperishable food items, medical services, and a hot meal are provided to residents.

Reno Gastro Project provides the meal, and it is always a big hit! Today’s was lunch from Super Chix - Reno. Thanks to our supporters, we purchase meals from local restaurants at full price and serve to people in need.

We are working on our 2023 schedule and are looking forward to partnering with more local organizations and restaurants. Please consider a contribution so we can continue to support local and stop hunger together.
