Today’s Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows Business Meeting was quite eventful. We welcomed 3 new members, celebrated members with another year of perfect attendance, and recognized our July Soroptimist birthdays.

We work hard as Soroptimist and always remember to take the time to celebrate new members and accomplishments.

The 37th annual Thanks To Youth award luncheon came off without a hitch, honoring 10 Unsung Heroes and two Scholarship winners. Thanks to Youth began in May of 1987 as a way to honor the “Unsung Heroes” among the youth in our community. These youth were not necessarily student scholars or athletes, but ordinary students accomplishing extraordinary things in their schools, churches and families. Since its inception, Thanks to Youth has given awards to over 500 scholarships and Unsung Hero recipients.

This year each Unsung Hero received a $250 shopping spree at Target plus $500 awarded their nominator. In addition, two $3000 scholarships were awarded to two graduating stellar seniors.

Special thanks to the success of our event go to the Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa, as well as, DigiPrint Corporation for our printed materials.

What an honor! Congratulations Lane.

Our club member, Lane Parks is in New York as a Soroptimist International delegate at the UN's Commission on the Status of Women! It's a huge honor and we're so proud to have one of our own there! GO LANE!!

Soroptimist International (SI) holds General Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), advocating for women's and girls' rights. Through these efforts, Soroptimist International works to influence international policies, ensuring they directly address the needs of women and girls worldwide.

Tomorrow on International Women’s Day, we honor the courage and resilience of women and girls around the world. It’s a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come, and to recommit ourselves to the work still needed to ensure a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, Soroptimist, from several of the Distrist 5 clubs, walked the Sparks Marina to celebrate how far we’ve come and recommit to the work still needing to be done.
