Our club member, Lane Parks is in New York as a Soroptimist International delegate at the UN's Commission on the Status of Women! It's a huge honor and we're so proud to have one of our own there! GO LANE!!

Soroptimist International (SI) holds General Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), advocating for women's and girls' rights. Through these efforts, Soroptimist International works to influence international policies, ensuring they directly address the needs of women and girls worldwide.

Tomorrow on International Women’s Day, we honor the courage and resilience of women and girls around the world. It’s a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come, and to recommit ourselves to the work still needed to ensure a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, Soroptimist, from several of the Distrist 5 clubs, walked the Sparks Marina to celebrate how far we’ve come and recommit to the work still needing to be done.

Soroptimist International Truckee Meadows (SITM) had a full house of 52 members and guests in attendance at our Live Your Dream (LYD) award luncheon. This award provides cash grants to women who are the primary financial supporters of their families, assisting them with education, skills training, and employment prospects.

Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows gathered to make up candy bags for the students of Project 150. It’s always a fun event with socializing and getting to know each other better, as well as, providing community support for our friends at project 150.

Many thanks to the Atlantis for accommodating us in the Sky Bridge room, which was a fabulous venue. The Atlantis is an exceptional community partner in all the work we do as SITM and we are grateful for their continued support.

Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows members work hard toward our mission of serving the educational needs of women and girls, but we also take time out to play.
Recently we enjoyed an overcast Saturday in the Apple Hill area loading Kay’s car with apple pies, apple blossoms, holiday decorations, and tasty munchies.

I think it says volumes about SITM when we not only work hard together, but we enjoy spending time with each other outside of committee and organizational work.

Yesterday at SITM, we did an exercise to discover our leadership styles. We were asked to select either circle, triangle, square, or zigzag. Circles love to work in teams, are compassionate, and like to have fun. Triangles are extremely confident, outspoken, and like to be in charge. Squares are detailed oriented, analytical, and responsible. Zigzags are energetic, love to try new things, and are creative. Since the majority of our work in Soroptimist is done in teams, it’s essential to know that not everyone is the same leadership style and to be able to capitalize on the strength of all four aspects of leadership for a successful endeavor.

Another successful Queen of Hearts Tea for Soroptimist International Truckee Meadows. $23,000 was raised in support of the work we do in the community for women and girls. Many thanks to our sponsors and to all who enjoyed the raffle, the silent auction, the wine wagon, and the games, and of course of TEA.

Our special thanks to the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa for the perfect venue, their hard working staff, and fabulous food that facilitated our success.

A grand time was had by all!
